Today it is exactly half a century ago that I attended my first Stones show (it was the second show that day btw). Have been addicted ever since with some 60+ shows, still wanting more. Proudly waiting for the new record and keen to see a few more shows.

the greatest rock and roll band in the world - definitely

I don't know if there's a better recording. Anyway, the band was on steam with Mick Taylor.

Time flies.

Hey, I noticed that on 'Honky Tonk Women' Charlie started the song, not Keith. Moreover, as far as I can tell Charlie didn't play the cowbell intro, he just launched into it. It sounds good, too!

I recall that the Stones played HTW rarely in 72-73. Was this just a one-off intro by Charlie? I like it in any case.

They played HTW 6 times in 1972 and on all shows of 1973, both Winter Tour and European tour. They never did the cowbell intro, it was either Keith or Charlie, or even Taylor who started the song.

Did they play the cowbell intro at all before 1981?

Yeah, I know that smiling smiley

I didn't hear it live until 1981, though. I think Bobby played the cowbell in 1982, if memory serves.

He did in 1982, but also on several shows in 1981. I have been listening to a lot of 1981 shows lately and Keys played a lot more on that tour than we thought, including sax on SFM (when played), JJF and Satisfaction on many shows until the end of the tour.

In 1975 Ollie Brown played the cowbell on HTW as well, but he added a lot more to it of course.
