Who's on backing voc on Mess It Up?

A gospel choir is involved according to this review..

"And “Mess It Up,” although edging closer to corny than anything else here, in the end makes good use of both a gospel choir and a disco beat. (“You think I’d mess it up, mess it up, mess it up all for you?” Jagger sings to an aspiring mistress who, per the lyrics, seduced his landlord and broke into his residence. We know it’s fiction because there’s no way Jagger rents any of his many homes.)"

I seem to recall that Mick does, in fact, rent out his place in Mustique.

Yes, he may rent it out to others, but I think he owns the place himself.

I understand some want to talk about songs before they are available to the public, but please show some respect. The majority of fans do not yet have access to the album, so reports about songs not yet available to the public is really not appropriate, in my opinion.

This thread will be closed tomorrow afternoon, and separate threads will be opened, when the album is out for the public Friday morning. I don't really see the point in reporting on songs that 90% of the fans have not yet got access to legally.

Fair enough. But perhaps it should be pointed out that a lot of people also gave their opinions on the songs based just on what they heard on the Planet Radio broadcast, even though they only had heard parts of them. That episode aired on October 15th, and people listened to it perfectly legally. [iorr.org];

Review in French

The Stones' elixir of youth
The Rolling Stones have been with us for over sixty years. Their new album, Hackney Diamonds, comes out after a long recording hiatus. And it's a great one. With Mick Jagger at the helm.

That sax solo on Get Close… man that’s cool. It sounds like Jake from E Street.

I'm on holiday so can't listen to the album until i return, is there a link to any tracks other than the two singles, itchin to hear Keith's track's but not expecting much from the rest of the album due to comments already made about Micks voice too high in the mix again. Hopefully it's not as nasal and irritating as the past few albums.

How would you assess the contribution of modern technology to mick's voice ?

Not sure what you are asking, all I can say is Mick on Exile was a good combination of Mick singing into the songs as opossed to singing over them.
From what Andrew Watt said Mick sang over all Keith's playing after Keith finished his music, so are we to hear Mick effectively singing Karaoke.

Just noticed Keith only singing for 2 minutes on one song so looks like he's completely lost his grip on all things Rolling Stones, it is what it is, hopefully it's a great Jagger solo album like Wondering Spirit.

Here it says Darryl is on the album:

[americansongwriter.com]

Hackney Diamonds is expected to be the band’s first album of new material since A Bigger Bang in 2005. It also will mark their first release without founding drummer Charlie Watts, who died in 2021 prior to the band’s 60th-anniversary tour.

The band recently revealed that they were working on a new album with drummer Steve Jordan and bass player Darryl Jones, and recorded basic tracks in New York City.

Yes, Nico Zentgraf also placed Darryl at the NYC sessions. But maybe the tracks he was on weren't used for this album after all?

We'll find out.

What a, let's face it, very great surprise !!

Did not expect to hear the Stones like this anymore, but this is FANTASTIC !

All the guys who didn't expect much with this producer and on this age of the band go eat your heart out !
Only the Stones can make this kind of shit !!

Ok, my five cents, back to listening !!

Watt said Jagger laid down his final vocals once everything else was in place. Much as Jagger did back with Tattoo You, so I'd say it was nonsense to suggest Mick's contribution here is just karaoke. Also, Keith Richards is all over the album, with a lot of harmony vocals for one, and the detailing of the guitars, the riffs, the rhythms, is fantastic. Jagger may have brought most of them in, but Richards raised them right up.
As for autotune style tech, you do hear bits here and there, as well as quite a bit of nice double tracking, and they both achieve a similar kind of fuzziness, rfemionds me of mid 70s Glam TBH.
