Great song that was largely missed in the 1980s.

Yeah, their entire late 80's early 90's was completely overlooked. Kind of depressing actually. They had some super poignant songs and albums.

Well, here in the U.K., none of their studio albums charted after Village Green's release in '68. It's almost as if the British record-buying public totally forgot about them. In fact, post-1960's, only a handful of their singles charted in the U.K., too: Lola, Apeman, Supersonic Rocket Ship, and Come Dancing.

Didn't Superman chart?

Funny that this poignant song came out less than 20 years after that golden period and here we are 36 years after it was released talking about it.

I (one of the few) bought the album when it came out in 87 and played it quite a bit, though haven't thought about it in decades.

That line was a great homage to the stones.

It failed to chart.

According to the Wikipedia entry, other than those I mentioned above, the only Kinks single-releases to chart - and I use the word 'chart', very lightly! - were the following: Better Days, Don't Forget To Dance, How Are You, and, finally, Only A Dream. Each of these barely scrapped in, all charting below the recognised Top-40. Considering that, I wonder how they can even be considered 'chart entries'

A wonderful extra studio song from a very good live album that was totally ignored at the time.

Glad you liked it. Love the video but the editing/shortening of the tune was a little clumsy and chopped out some great lyrics about "faraway places like Wigan and Birmingham". Heres the whole song intact-
