David Bowie is the biggest for me too, apart from Stones and Dylan, I must say. But Im not American, so perhaps I dont count. (Norway.)

huge bowie fan here... though not of everything. He's spottier than a band like the stones. But more adventurous, which can be more rewarding. My favorite albums are probably Aladdin Sane and "Heroes". Heathen is great, too!

Well you can tell where I stand from my username. I chose it cos it's a very Stones like riff.

I have loved the Stones and Bowie from 1969 and 1972 respectively and that's a long time. I must say it was a hell of a lot cheaper to follow Bowie around on the Reality tour in 2003 when I got to all the UK and Irish gigs at a pretty modest cost. But I can't tell you how much I look forward to a couple of gigs this summer. (Stones gigs I mean!)

As a "young American" of 19 years of age. I was in love with the music about 2 summers ago. I bought that new live stuff watch the DVD had a CD or two but since that summer I have rarely listented to him. I dont know what it is. I just think he is to sporadic. All over the place for me. I cant describe it but I never have kept up with him. Take care.

I'm American and I love Bowie's music. I even like his song "I'm Afraid Of Americans." I am also afraid of Americans, especially after the last election.

a huge Stones buddy of mine probably would put him #3 after dylan - in fact, in an endeavor to convert me he burned me about 25 bowie disks before I attended my first bowie show in '04. Not converted yet - I enjoy some of his stuff, but can't quite understand the adulation...but I'm still working on it.

I fell in love with the thin white duke. (Im not gay.) A cold, cold, but furious, sparkling mood. Diversities, thats the head word (unless thats spelled wrong).

really?the duke? i wouldn't fall for him.Don't get me wrong, low is one of my favorites but when it comes to what david brought to ziggy in terms of vocals, style and this sense of something new and exciting... he drives me mad... and i mean the whole concept.. my fav record is diamond dogs...

Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs and Aladin Sane are up there among the very best rock records of all time. I never get sick of listening to those. And he does a mean cover of Let's Spend The Night Together!

Maybe Bowie can be the Super Bowl "guest" and he and Mick can do a "Panic in Detroit" duet.

Maybe Bowie can be the Super Bowl "guest" and he and Mick can renact a little duet they were rumoured to have done in the '70s. Now THAT would cause a Panic In
Detroit!

I LOOOOOOVE Bowie. Love him. Def in my top 5. At times he is my absolute favorite. I love everything: Rebel Rebel, Blue Jean, Under Pressue, Heart's Filthy Lesson, New Killer Star, Queen Bitch, DJ. It's all amazing. I could go on my rant about he's the greatest thing since Jesus but I'll just stop. He's amazing. Period.

To Gia43

"Was the Reality tour good?"

It was fantastic. The DVD from Dublin will give you a good idea of it. He changed the setlists a lot so even seeing 8 shows in 2 weeks wasn't at all boring. The band were very tight, DB sang incredibly well and also looked like he was genuinely enjoying himself. To be honest, I remember seeing him on the big Ziggy tour in 1973 and he looked like he was enjoying it and I read him say much later that he was exhausted and couldn't wait to stop touring. So he's a true professional and a very good actor. However, he actually said he was enjoying the Reality tour so I'm sure he was. He really connects with an enthusiastic crowd and there were plenty of those.

I saw him on the Reality Tour in Cleveland in January '04. What a great show. I'm Afraid of Americans was awesome, as was Hallo Spaceboy and China Girl. Macy Gray was the opener and that was cool. I really enjoy her. She's quite talented. And I must say to all you nay-sayers out there on Macy Gray, if David Bowie likes her then frankly who cares what you think.

You're right about Station to Station belonging up there with the greats. I had forgotten how good that one is. Heathen is quite good too, especially Slow Burn with Pete Townshend on guitar. My favorite is Cactus - intense! I love the Pixies (Frank Black wrote Cactus when he was in the Pixies) and apparently Bowie is a fan as well. Bowie did a duet with Frank Black on the song Fashion. That one is a lot of fun. Are you a Pixies fan?

I was 14 when I saw the Ziggy tour - I got to two shows, towards the end of it. (Not Hammersmith though almost exactly the same set.) It is really hard to compare that tour with the Reality tour as they were 30 years apart so both DB and myself were also 30 years older and very different people. The impact that Ziggy made on me was unforgettable but I think I enjoyed the Reality shows more overall. Having said that I must add that there will never be another Mick Ronson. That Moonage Daydream footage on the Hammersmith DVD still blows my mind!

big US bowie fan here too...

faves:

1.hunky dory
2.station to station
3.earthling
4.50th b'day bash at msg w/guests (lou reed, rob't smith, frank black, etc.)
5.young americans
6.scary monsters
7.outside
8.low

was VERY glad when he 'returned' to good form in 1995, and brought back his old pianist from the alladin sane days and eno to make "outside". i thought we'd lost him after Lets Dance, just as rod stewart and elton john never returned to classic form once they jumped ship to crass dance pop shmaltz.

rykodisc did a great job of re-releasing his catalogue, remastered with bonus tracks, just like i wish our favorite group would do.

You didn't like Let's Dance? Not up there with the best, I admit, but some good catchy songs (Let's Dance, Modern Love, China Girl), and some great guitar work by Stevie Ray Vaughn!
