Sam passed on Tuesday, July 11th. He was 80 years old. He was at some big moments in Rock ‘n Roll.

Former Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead Tour Manager Sam Cutler Passes Away (The Music Australia)

Legendary music industry personality Sam Culter, former tour manager for The Rolling Stones and Grateful Dead, has passed away in Brisbane, aged 80.

In a statement on Cutler’s Facebook, his children, Bodhi and Chesley, confirmed that he passed away “peacefully in his sleep” on Tuesday.

“Our father was first diagnosed with cancer nearly a decade ago, and it is with gratitude that Sam's family thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, hospital staff and administrators in ALL hospitals that our father received treatment within,” they said.

“Many people from across our big beautiful world crossed paths with Sam in his life, and many more formed timeless memories with him that are each beautiful encapsulations of the man that he was.

“Sam would want nothing more for his friends to continue to form timeless memories with whomever they meet, and to share those memories with him in the next life.

Great life with some of the best rock'n roll bands, his book is an interesting read. The Stones did see him backstage in Brisbane in 2003 I remember Sam on Melb radio 3RRR that Keith wasn't that pleased to see him....
RIP Sam.

This is probably the best and most adequate intro ever said in any concert, and it brings back so many memories to all of us.

RIP, Sam.

Wish they had brought back that as intro after Bill Graham left.

Sad news. I loved his book about the 1969 tour - I sent him a message congratulating him on it and telling him that it made a nice companion piece to Stanley Booth’s book. Sam very kindly wrote me back.

Sad news indeed, 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' is a must read, not just for the Stones content but also for the extraordinary tales of life on the road with The Dead. RIP Sam.

Another great individual, part of Stones rock and roll history, who has left us.

I remember this excerpt from that famous interview that Jann Wenner did with Mick Jagger in 1995: "Are the Stones the greatest rock band in the world?"
"It’s just a stupid epithet. It just seems too Barnum and Bailey to me – like it’s some sort of circus act. The first time we heard it said was to introduce us every night. So I used to say, “Will you please not use that as your announcement? It’s so embarrassing. And what does that mean? Does it mean the best, the biggest, the most long-lasting?” You know?"

I can't remember where I read this, but Cutler's response to Jagger was something like, "Either you or you aren't."

Rest in peace Sam.
