Hey Detroit.........tough shit. Aretha Franklin. Give me a break. That fat old hag would have to be rolled into the stadium on a platform like Jabba the Hut to do what? Sing RESPECT for 9 millionth time. WOW. Exciting. Aretha made a career out of singing other peoples songs, that bloated old cow.

Detroit....one of the great ghost town, crime ridden, blown out cities in America and all they can talk about is the Superbowl? The city is lucky to have the game played there in the first place because its such a dump. They should release the stats on how many crimes are committed upon people who attend the game.

Motown made some great music but it, like Detroit is over. Who the hell wants to go to a frozen over blown out dump to see a football game anyway. They should be happy th be hosting the greatest Rock Band the world will ever know of.

Detroit should be enraged that their city is riddled with criminals who will probably flip over and set fire to some cars during the game. I'm sure the Goodyear Blimp would show that footage. I hope Mick comes out and sings an old blues song backed only bt Charlie who is playing 2 spoons.

At the end of the Stones Superbowl set they should blow welfare checks out of the funnels instead of confetti, then everyone can watch the great stampede. It would be just like the Looters in New Orleans only dry.

You rotten dirty @#$%& ain't got the right to talk like this about Aretha. I'd suggest you go back to your Britney Spears records and do something about your verbal diarrhea.

That last sentence in the article "Can you imagine Aretha and Keith together?" shows how out of touch the writers are. That already took place a long time ago. Mtter of fact Aretha kniows good music, i.e. the Stones. I wouldn't go as far as calling AF a fat ole cow LOL, but Detroit should be happy to get some real bonafide bigtime attention with Superbowl, Stones, big audience. They need a shot in the arm.

Milo,

Cap'n has a point. You don't help your argument by slamming Aretha. She's one of the greats and doesn't deserve any dis r-e-s-p-e-c-t. IMO.

Surely there are more positive arguments to be made for the Stones?

OK, I'm going to weigh in on this one.

First of all, I'm from Detroit.

I just read the article and thanks for posting that. I think it deserves a closer reading.

What I noticed is that the Detroit folks were upset that no Detroit musicians were picked for this event. I really think that's the main point. I left Detroit a long time ago and Detroit, as everyone knows, has gone through some really tough times. Detroit doesn't get a lot of good things happen there and I think they saw this mostly as a missed opportunity to showcase Detroit, and I don't think you can fault them for that.

Yes, they took some pot shots at the Stones but geez, who doesn't these days? Jay Leno always makes fun of them, many folks here have complained about how corporate them have become and of course the set lists.

I'm sure the writer could have talked to some other folks in Detroit who are glad that the Stones are coming to Detroit, but that wouldn't make very interesting reading, would it?

I am from Detroit and I am NOT upset about this at ALL.
Neither is anyone I know.
This article is lame.

I have seen Aretha wheeled out to lip synch one of her "classics" WAY to many times here. If you are a fan of hers, great. But the next time I see her "singing" a half a beat behind the music I am hearing while absolutely buldging, bursting, and balloning out of her dress, I will vomit in my mouth.

LMAO!!!

(Though a bit harsh on ol' Aretha - she's cool!)

Was that funny? or have I had a humour bypass today? Residents of Detroit respond perhaps?.......

You'd think Detroit would have raised a ruckus about this long ago instead of waiting after the official announcement. It's not exactly been a big secret.

Hey Milo Douchebag:

Good post from someone from NYC. I forgot that NY doesn't have criminals or poverty.

Believe me, guys. Detroit is not raising a ruckus about this.

We are all terrified at the thought of the international media descending upon the shithole we proudly call home.

Probably just some bozo columnist trying to stir things up a bit and get people to read his writing.

Similar to other so called "music writers" in local papers that go see the Stones in their city then write the same stuff everyone else does in other cities. Groundhog Day, again and again and again...........

I'm from Detroit as well and miss it dearly. Not necessarily the city but the suburbs and the feel of the whole metro area. It's a great place to live (the suburbs I mean) and raise kids.

The article is just to fill space mainly. As someone else pointed out, they don't get other local acts in other cities.

If anyone from Detroit were capable of filling stadiums right now, they might let them play. Ok, there's Kid Rock, but he just played the Super Bowl two years ago. Also Eminem, but he is too controversial and would say no anyway. All that leaves is someone from out of town, and in that case why not the Stones?

Kid Rock and Eminem are two of the most overhyped no-talents who have ever lived. Especially Em.

So...how 'bout the boys do some Motown tunes to appease the masses...

My Girl

Ain't Too Proud to Beg

Just My Imagination

Going to a Go-Go

...would make a cool set

Now there's a good idea. I'd leave out "My Girl" though!

Screw that, the Stones do not need to bow to anyone.

They will play the setlist that they want to play.
