He just passed. What a great entertainer and humanitarian. The clip below is a group of music folks singing his signature song, Day-O, for him at the USA For Africa session.

Here's a good documentary on Harry Belafonte, available on dvd:

The film was produced by Sage Scully in 2011. As it happens, Sage was a member of the Rolling Stones touring staff about 20 years ago.

I was fortunate enough to have seen him perform live many years ago at Judson Memorial Church at a service for Dave Van Ronk. He had an incredible aura about him, effortlessly cool

RIP a great musician and a great man. One of his kind.

Check if haven't what Dylan (whose first officially released piece is his harmonica on Harry's "Midnight Special") writes about him in CHRONICLES.

My mom owned a copy of his 1970 album Homeward Bound, which was an album of folk-rock covers and also Harry's last charting LP. It was good. I used to listen to it quite a bit when I was a kid.

We've lost a GIANT of a man. I just read his biography last year and he lived an incredible life, filled with good deeds and marches against racism and civil rights violations. He gave away millions to the needy and risked his life many times to attend meetings in the deep south where he planned various gatherings that stood against the KKK in their own backyard. My Dad introduced his music to me in the late 50's and early 60's, singing a beautiful rendition of " Scarlet Ribbons". To this day that song makes me cry. Rest in peace dear Harry Belafonte.
