Smokey, thanks for your points, which are good. It's not that I don't appreciate the breadth of the stones' music -- for example, Black & Blue is one of my favorite albums -- but I just don't like where "Time Waits for No One" takes them. I see some connection to "Waiting on a Friend," but the lyrics to that song are excellent, where "Time"'s are IMO terrible, and in "Waiting" there is no extended taylor solo, which is good thing by me, even if they had never overdubbed the brilliant Sonny Rollins. Anyway, my main point there was that I feel bad for taylor fans who must wish there were more songs like "Time."
Thanks for reminding me of what was said in the dylan conversation. I've only heard a few '84 shows (there's one from Barcelona, I think, with great sound), so I can't comment on the consistency, but I do hear why taylor's playing doesn't quite click with dylan, even if it's ultimately dylan's fault for hiring him. That said, taylor's work on "Blind Willie McTell" is quite apt.
I haven't heard any of taylor's solo stuff.
