the produce section of the market (near the celery) Beast of Burden over the loudspeaker...but the strangest for me was hearing Pretty Vacant (Sex Pistols) in a McDonalds burger joint in France
Someone, I think Potted Shrimp (?), had a real good story of hearing a Stones song somewhere in a really small village in the Andes during an expedition - or was I dreaming that??
Anyway, I heard Satisfaction in a Sushi Restaurant in Paris two weeks ago - the Japanese cook was singing along, sounded incredibly funny

Lorenz...too bad you didn't bootleg the singing Japanese cook...then, you could've overdubbed his vocals onto the original music

Searching the "Maifeld" in the German town Mannheim, in '98 I think. I was too late, the Stones had already opened their gig, I could hear them loud and clear like never before, the highway was empty, no car, only the music of my band, but I didn't find my way to heaven ... So I got out of my car on the empty highway and heard the greatest version of "Out of Control" I've ever heard. The Wah Wah guitar of Ronnie was incredible. I reached the open air area when they did already their songs on the small stage ...
There is a "open church" in my hometown where young people are allowed to organize parties and discos. The church is quite old style and still used as a chucrh most of the time. One Saturday night about six years ago I was there and they actually played "Sympathy for the Devil".
What's really disturbing me is when they are playing "Ruby Tuesday" or "Angie" in the clothes and cosmetics division of supermarkets.
i worked at a hamburger place in toronto called Licks, and we would have preset playlists on iTunes that would play throughout the store. most songs were aretha franklin, the beatles, the monkees etc...
so one night, i was closing, and i snuck on the computer, and added:
lets spend the night together as tears go by satisfaction child of the moon pain in my heart carol jumpin jack flash

Right on, mttlacroix,
That Licks Restaurant setlist needs an update from Rockin' Robin. It's probably worth telling people that Licks the burger joint and Licks the Tour and album have little in common, but mttlacroix has changed that. You're a good man.
I used to play hockey at a city (public) rink that played figure skating music all the time, even when the figure skaters weren't practicing. Drove me nuts.
So one day I loaded up the cd rack with Stones cds. After that we listened to the Stones whenever we played.

funny you should mention the Licks tour, but we had a small promotion when they came to toronto in '02 and to the ACC in '03. Cohl sent our store some tickets for a draw. we got quite a few more customers just to put their names in the box.
btw, i hate figure skating. why the @#$%& is it still in the olympics?

Not wanting to risk hijacking the thread: because it puts bums in the seats.
They should have to figure skate without music, see how long that keeps people's attention, most people need the emotional fix that music provides to appreciate what's going on on the ice, they don't know their triple axel from a hole in the ground . . . and I don't believe that you're offending anyone on this board.
In 1992 I was walking down the main street in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. It had been just a couple of years since the political changes, so there was still a very Eastern European/Communist flavor to the city. On the corner there were 2 guys playing guitars and singing "Out of Time", with a hat at their feet for money. I enjoyed it so much I contributed to them. Stalin would have rolled over in his grave!!
I remember reading at this board YEARS AGO, about somebody hearing a person on the street playing "Mystifies Me". He stopped in front of him, and when he was finished he said "Mystifies Me, thats a great song, very nice", and the street person said something like "Ive played for 25 years, and nobody has ever recognized it before!" Do you remember that?

No, it wasn't a dream! It was The Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man blasting thru a cassette-deck in the middle of nowhere in the Andes. All the Cowboys danced!!!
