Just wanted to add today was a really moving tribute to a legend. Incredibly well handled and dignified funeral. Thoughts are with George and all his family, extended and otherwise.

And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin' home
And it stoned me...

yes, Kent, I sure was. His son even reached out of the limo to shake my hand too.
One of the most emotional days I'll ever experience, but in many ways, also a proud one.

and that's where, my conflict with his memory (and many others, i'd guess) collide.
He was a drunk.
A wifebeater.
A cheating womaniser.
Someone who got a 2nd chance with a new liver- and abused it.

But he was also the best footballer the world has ever known
(apart from Pele i.m.o)

I think, on saturday- the funeral day- people chose to pay homage to his footballing skills and not dwell on his flaws as a human being.

My anger -on this matter, is directed at the ludicrous new licencing laws, that ironically came into force, the day Mr Best passed away.
Everyone, apart from the Government and the breweries, consider the longer drinking hours, a disaster waiting to happen. When George Best's surgeon and friend, Prof. Williams, comes out, and speaks out, very strongly about this matter, i for one, listen.

Not to rub it in but did you cry? I saw some of it on TV and welled up a bit. So sad. This man was in the top of all-time footballers. Right up there with Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Beckenbauer and Papin.

Brian Jones was just as bad at that too, but nobody is complaining over him it seems.
