What's the hottest live stones song you've ever heard?

I would pick the version of Midnight Rambler from the 1973 King Biscuit Flower hour. The slide guitar just smokes on that one.

Brussels/London/Perth/Sydney 1973 etc. is obvious. To mention one other that gives me the chills, is when the sound suddenly gets better during "All Down The Line" in Toronto 1975, and then they start "If You Cant Rock Me". That is a hot, rocking moment. (Thanks too bootlegs).

This subject's come up before. My answers are about the same:

1) From 1972 Tour: You Can't Always Get What You Want... the whole concert was first class but for whatever reason that's clearly the most memorable song from it. In a way, Midnight Rambler is prolly a distant 2nd.

2) From VooDoo Lounge: Not Fade Away... just a big, heavy, thunderous song with a slow build... GREAT OPENER... very memorable.

3) From Forty Licks:

A) Can't You Hear Me Knockin'
cool smiley Midnight Rambler w/ Keith & Ronnie on b-stage
C) Back to Back: Sympathy for the Devil & Gimme Shelter

4) From ABB Tour:

A) Satisfaction on the B-Stage
cool smiley Jumpin' Jack Flash encore...

There are alot of great live songs in memory, but these are "a cut above".

"It's just that demon life has got me in it's sway..."

Under My Thumb - Wembley Fri 25 June 1982.

First song of the first time I saw them live, and after queueing for hours to get in to get to the front and walking miles due to a London Underground strike.

Street Fighting Man, Prague 95 -
it was in the last quarter of the show, at that point when the crowd already feels completely blown away,
and that freakin *total* SFM came thundering down and just smashed us to our knees.
ohhh that mighty right hand!

"What do you want - what?!"
- Keith

- Out Of Control at MSG NYC 1998. I was in heaven.
- Gimme Shelter many times.
- Street Fighing Man many times.
- Memory Motel Philly 1997 because it was MM first time for me.
- Saint of Me at Buenos Aires 1998

PS. Gimme Shelter on Bedspring Symphony a.k.a. Brussels Affairs must be the greatest recording of all times, but a great technical recording is not the same as a hot hot hot experience in the crowd!!!

Heard: probably Midnight Rambler on the Welcome To NY 72 boot, but there are so many I can't take only one.

Experienced: probably the two I enjoyed the most were Live With Me and Little Queenie in Vigo 98 and Midnight Rambler in Santiago 99.

Here's some real gems from the 60s. They kicked ass back then.

I can't be satisfied London 04.03.1965. Jesus it's really really good. Beatles, anyone?? Nothing compared to this.

Little red rooster, LA 26.05.1965. Best version ever. Really it is. Brian and Mick on slide and harmonica. Brian should really have stuck to the slide a bit more. Restless soul.

The last time, same show. Brian's show.

Play with fire, same show. The twins glimmer. Brian on keys(?).

I Am waiting 10.09.1966. Magical. Mick and Brian again makes this a great number. Hidden gems.

Same with UMT. On video Brian steals this show completely. One understand how Mick in a way must have hated him. Brian really was the star back then.

Finally: How about a new well produced issue of their live material from the 60s?? Of course Mick and Keith won't do it. Brian is all over those songs even if he didnt write them, just licks and parts.

The best: (and I think I truly had an out of body experience)
Cleveland (Gund Arena- B stage, 2nd Row), Midnight Rambler, I took a flash picture of Mick and Keith (it hangs proudly in my home office) and after the song Mick picks up a camera (behind equipment) and takes a picture of me!

2nd best Satisfaction, Soldier Field, Voodoo Tour (Field level seats, I danced my ass off!!)

Tumblin' Dice from Brussels Affair takes some beating, though I have to admit to having a strange soft spot for It's All Over Now from Honolulu 73.

As far as recordings:

Struck me that the "Midnight Rambler" from Leeds 1971 was pretty special. And whoever cited the El Mocambo 1977 "Around And Around" was dead-on. Blows me away.

Ones I've witnessed:

I was lucky enough to see the "Out Of Control" performances at MSG in Jan. 1998 (mentioned by BV) and they were stunning--especially on Saturday night.

A 1994 show at Syracuse, NY featured an "It's All Over Now" that floored my brother and me. Wish I could find a tape...

Roseland 2002 was pretty great top-to-bottom. The latter half, when "Can't You Hear Me...," "Stray Cat," "Rock Me Baby" and "Rambler" were played was ugly and dark and fierce. Love that shit.

And, finally: I've mentioned it before, but "Little Queenie" at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY 1997. First tune after the MTV broadcast.

Just absolutely white hot. Keith and Woody were grinning from ear to ear.
