Las Vegas Show surprises... some thought it was actually great

Well miracles continue to happen.

Posters on The Shidoobee review board seems to think that the Vegas show last night was fantastic.

One histrionic poster actually claimed that last nites show had the single best rendition of Sympathy for the Devil that they had ever heard live....

....Someone should really tell them that this is impossible, because Ronnie Wood is such an incompetent guitarist.

I think that makes for 35 greatest renditions of SFTD on this tour alone. will wonders never cease.

Is anyone else fedup with the whole "Ronnie sucks" banter? BTW, the setlist appeals to most every person at the venue. The problem is, us hardcore fans really are a minority. We're not the typical concert goers though. Also, I think SFTD should be dropped from the set along with SMU, JJF, TD, YGMR, Satisfaction and YCAGWYW.

I was at the show and any true stones fan would have loved to be there. I find it bazaar that Ron Wood gets so much crap. He did some really cool stuff last night, but I guess you got to be cool to hear it. "any fan would be dissapointed" Thats got to be the stupidest thing ever written. Do you make up set lists and pleaseur your self thinking about if they might play it. Its true he can't play a pretty lead bit but isn't nice that he dosn't have to. When Keith was getting his last licks in on Brown Sugar and Mick dances up and fire's up the crowd right next to him could you honestly say yea but they didn't play.......You got to be kidding. Mick shreeks on SFTD....yea but Ronnie can't play....Hey set list are some words on a page last night we had the real thing who gives a @#$%& about what song it happens to be packaged in. I'm sorry but that crap is blasphamy!

Bollocks - the Stones don't need a lead guitar player at all.

I have heard most of the boots from this tour, and Ronnie has had a few bad moments, but I think overall he is playing well. The band sounds great and Ronnie is not holding them back in any way as far as I can hear.

Just goes to show that two different people can listen to the same thing and form two different opinions about it. But those who aren't happy with Ronnie's playing seem to be in the minority. The concerts certainly continue to be well attended and well reviewed by various newspapers and magaazines.

I've seen the Stones 32 times since 1975. Anytime someone says they should drop SFTD, SMU, JJF, TD, YGMR, Satisfaction and YCAGWYW I really laugh. Probably their seven most popular songs beside BS? You can call yourselves dedicated, knowledgeable fans all you want but you know absolutely nothing about the real world and marketing. If they didn't play those songs, they would only be able to sell out small clubs. While some of us would enjoy seeing that kind of tour, it wouldn't make any of them any money and it isn't going to happen! Also, even back in '81 they were only playing 4 or 5 new songs most shows out of 26/27. So why do people keep asking for all of Bigger Bang to be played? They are already playing 4 of them everytime out of a 21 song setlist. That isn't about to increase.

But by all means keep saying this, because there is nothing like a morning laugh! By the way, Ronnie is also playing just fine. But you might as well keep knocking him too, because it's just another laugh! I've been hearing the same thing for the past 11 years on this site.

Yo Oh Not...

Have you heard the live versions of It Won't Take Long ?? THat's as good guitar work as Keith and Ronnie ever did on any song... there's a link to live boots of this on the board.

Seams as if we have a lot of fans of that four headed monster from Liverpool on this board. Coz a tru Rolling Stones fan just cannot complain about the current set list. A person cmplaining has totally missed the whole point what Da Rolling Stones is all about.
Everyone can have their own opinions and I am having mine

have a nice day

Sometimes I wonder if the Shi'bees and I are at the same concert. Maybe there's some kind parallel universe thingy going on and they're at the greatest concert ever and I'm stuck at another mediocre Stones performance this tour.

I guess there is the possibility he never turned on his hearing aid in the past.

This tour, it seems Keith has picked up that description.

Well, if we want a new lead guitarist, then please first get a real boogie-woogie/blues pianist!!

C'mon they have a great lead guitarist now. His name is Blondie Chaplin.

don't know if you were just being cute, Dan...but as I mentioned other times, Blondie is actually a world-class blues/rock guitarist....at least he was 25 years ago (then, again, so was RW then!).

I think the most realistic and main argument which most 'detractors' have made is to rotate a few of them. Only a complete moron would expect the Stones to drop all of their most well known songs in a show attended by tens of thousands of people

not true, Ron. The tickets are sold long in advance of anyone having a clue what theyre going to play.

While some of us would

see above

Also, when they announced the No security tour they specifically mentioned dropping a few 'standards' and digging out some more obscure songs. Every show sold out even though it was the first tour that had the insane ticket prices.

Also, even back in '81 they were only
> playing 4 or 5 new songs most shows out of 26/27.

also not true. They regularly did about six in the US leg (Start me up, Hang fire, Little T&A, Neighbours, Black limousine, waiting on a friend). 'Tops' got a few airings too.

its unrealistic to expect it all to be played. However, I dont recall anyone (or at least hardly anyone) actually suggesting that. This whole post is full of exaggerations made to prove a point..

somewhat unlikely as the message board has only been running for about half that time and this is only the second Stones tour since then....smiling smiley

Actually in 1981 when you consider they played 2 songs off Emotional Rescue and many more off Some Girls which was only 3 years old, then suddenly about half the set or more is made up of current material. But then they werent quite an oldies act at that time.
