Your favourite version of JJF?
Posted by: Ringo ()
Date: November 13, 2005 22:23

I love these versions of JJF:

1 Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out! One word: Tough!
2 Brussels, October 17, 1973: So chaotic, it's almost comical that someone can make such a thing, and call it music!
3 Rock And Roll Circus: The guitar sound!

Can't choose between these darlings!

From recent years, I'd say Shepherd's Bush '99. I like SDF Paris 09/07/2003 also.

THE STUDIO VERSION! They've never been able to capture the brilliance live - though they have come close.

The studio version is untouchable. Absolute musical perfection. the greatest single of the Stones' career and one of the best 3 records theyve ever made

I wish they'd play THAT intro in the live versions.

The best live version is still the one on get your ya yas out

Montreal, Molsen Cenre( now Bell Center) April 20, 1998! Never heard a more defiant, energized version in my life! Jagger leapt into the air like he did during the '75 Tour, way up high, leg splits mid-air, roaring guitars, Keith ponding away like a demon possessed!

My favorite Stones song, I hope they never take it out of the setlist. They've done some interesting things with it in the Woodie era. I like Hampton 81, and Memphis 78, and NYC 94, but the best versions were 69. Ya Ya's is great, but I think I prefer the morning show version on the movie Gimme Shelter. Sometimes I load the movie up just to watch JJF.

The variation in the "JJF" promo clip is news to me (only seen glimpses in 25X5).

How does the clip differ from the conventional single?

Do I need to shell out for the "Singles Vol. 3" box?

Pittsburgh, 7/22/72 (on VGP-083). There's a weird guitar echo which may actually be a technical difficulty (I'm no expert), but I find the effect awesome!

you might need to, but i wouldn't do it for the JJF promo.
for some reason the version on the Singles Box 3 has some vocal overdubs that ...
well, they aren't terrible, but it's not quite the same as the original promo hide-rip.
the original promo version is on some audio bootlegs (i have it on one called Through the Past Starkly, for example)
and on the DVD set called the Rolling Stones Anthology Video Collection.

"how does it differ" ... that pack of wild beasts is just all over that thing, Rev.
ripping your hide off and crushing your bones and hollering and carrying on like ...
oooh! :E

"Jumpin' jack flash" is the best piece of music ever recorded. Nothing beats the studio version.

The version on GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! is probably the coolest since it has that incredible intro about the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world...
The intro riff (somehow reversed) on ROCK'N'ROLL CIRCUS is also very interesting.

I don't like the "long versions" when played live. They should play it straight.

Agree: Studio unsurpassed-

Vocals seem to be an overdub on Ya Ya

[members.aol.com]

Otherwhise a great version.

The Circus version is also great. If I am not wrong it was played with on a LP (the custom?). Standard tuning? Could be. I would say he plays around with the B chord at the 2nd p and the A open string. Years I don't play that one!

Best live of the lot is the Love you Live version, mainly for what Mr. Wood does in the background.

The 89 version with the "studio" intro I don't like.
