The world is not black and white, Rocktiludrop. I'm sorry people you knew passed before turning 50, that's very sad, but it doesn't change the fact that alcoholism doesn't fit in a tid byy box.
I find your comments extremely tone-deaf and offensive. If Ronnie felt the need to seek intervention for his drinking habits/problem, then clearly he felt he had a problem. And I'm sure people around him pointed out issues that came with his alcoholism-- it's rare that people wake up one day and decide, "Gee, I don't want to chug this anymore" without the push of loved ones. It's not impossible, but it is rare. And your generalization of alcoholics...! I'm not even going to try to touch that one.
Anyway, I'm glad Ronnie got to meet up with Mick and Rod! I can't imagine how they all feel.

I'd consider myself 'alcohol dependent' Any sense of anxiety or stress, and I'll head for the beers. It's a coping mechanism; a crutch. When my mind is clear and I'm content, I'll gladly leave the beer until the weekend. At present, my routine is one beer when I'm in from work and then a second whilst I'm cooking my dinner. It hasn't crept beyond the two cans, but I'm disappointed with myself. I'm not drinking 'till inebriation and I'm waking with a clear head, but...
The irony is that, physically, I'm the fittest I've ever been. I've lost 40ibs over nine-month period and exercise like never before.

What you beating yourself up about, it's a scientific fact women that have one drink a day and men that have one to two drinks a day live longer.
But according to celebrities today you are an alcoholic. If you are fit and it works for you and you have time between your first and second drink you are fine mate, take care and enjoy your drinks.

You didn't strike me as the type to believe in scientific facts.
Here's another fact for ya' seeing how you're open to citing them.
This isn't about what celebrities think.
"Since 1956, the American Medical Association (AMA) has identified alcoholism as a disease characterized by compulsive decision-making, impulsive behavior and relapse."

Out of curiosity what do you think is the best thing to do out of having a couple beers to deal with anxiety stress etc or go the way of prescribed pharmaceutical drugs that is an absolute epidemic of addiction currently.

Neither.
Personally, I prefer weed.
Healthier people use exercise, meditation, etc.
Not everyone who uses, or even abuses, alcohol or other drugs is an alcoholic or an addict, I agree with you on this.
As you seem very defensive about the issue, it seems likely you are struggling with your own alcohol/addiction demons. Nothing to be ashamed of, grab a meeting or consider rehab. No sarcasm, and apologies if I'm reading it wrong, but typically such denial is a strong indicator.
Let Ronnie be an inspiration to you as he is to many with his sobriety and recovery.
Good luck.
