New band line-up
Date: November 4, 2005 21:38

Bill Wyman will never come back. If the Stones don't want Darryl Jones in their band, they should replace him. However, I want a Rolling Stone for a bass player! I don't want no session guy to do the job. What kind of band is this that doesn't even have a bass player?

I'll never grow accustomed to the Stones being a 4-piece-band but hell that's what they are since Bill Wyman left. I think if they really want to be a 4-piece-band they should rearrange:

Mick Jagger doing the vocals and rhythm guitar
Ronnie Wood playing the lead guitar
Keith Richards overtaking that bass vacancy
Charlie Watts staying the best drummer in the whole wide world

Mick wouldn't have to run around all the time.
This way Ronnie could bring in his own ideas (if he has any) without always getting bad looks from Keith.
Meanwhile Keith could stop @#$%&' up songs but start to concentrate on Charlie's steady rollin' rhythm. After all he played bass on quite a number of Stones tunes. I'm sure he was one of the main reasons Bill Wyman left. If Keith would play the fat bass strings he could also give a rest to his arthritic fingers. Keith on bass could be a whole new experience for all of us.
Maybe the bass playing could even be divided between Keith, Ronnie and Mick, so all of them could have their guitar showcase numbers.

How about them just lip-sync to a CD
Then they will sound perfect.

Let me get this straight...you want the Human Riff to hand over the job to Mick Jagger? Have another cocktail!

The only thing in this matter I can imagine is that Ron Wood does the bass part and they get a new second guitarist, e.g. Mick Taylor, but it is an essential question if you can repeat the great time from 69-74. Ron Wood is a great bass player, hear "Break the Spell" from "Steel Wheels" e.g.

But I would like to see Darryl Jones as an official Stone, Ronnie improves his guitar work again, and that's it.

Keith will take a backseat as a guitarist to Wood and (especially) Jagger when hell freezes over.

No, it's finally time for Theodora Richards on vocals, maybe Mick Jagger can still be of use as some sort of her roadie, holding cables or something. I want Chuck Leavell on lead guitar and one of Charlie's sheepdogs on the tambourine while Ronnie could hit the bottle. And about Keith, well, no idea. What could he do? Wasn't he good on the flute lately? I'd suggest all Stones songs would start with some flute intro from now on, so he'll always have something to mess up.

But aren't we dreaming? Ronnie was a good bass player when playing for the Jeff Beck Group back in 1968/69. He also was a good guitarist once. Probably his bass playing has become as inaccurate as his guitar playing since then.

If this thread is a joke well it's a bad one...
If it is thought to be serious then it is awful sad...

I honestly do not mean to be offensive in my reply. Where would we be without imagination? But this idea evokes not "You've Got Me Rockin"...it does bring to mind "You've Got Me On The Floor LM*O".

Darryl may be 'just a session player' but he's one of the most requested in the world! he's a great bass player , it wasnt so long ago that ronnie was a salaried employee..............

BECAUSE IM OLDKR

OK, Ronnie is there because Mick T. left and although he was probably a "salaried" guy in the beginning, it most likely lasted for one tour and then he was "in."

Darryl has no shot of being "in" and that is a very good thing.

However, correct me if I'm wrong, but as I have read on this board, one of the reasons Mick Taylor left is because Keith erased some of his contributions to recorded songs. If this is true, that is pretty shitty of Keith.

Based on Keith's recent quotes about going on without Charlie if he had died, I guess Keith also considers Charlie to be a "salaried" guy as well......even to this day.

I don't think Keith meant any disrespect to Charlie. What is he supposed to do? Keith is a musician to the bone. If something had happened to Charlie, keith would have of course had to keep on playing.

Yeah, but without Charlie it isn't the Stones. Call it Jagger/Richards or the Mick and Keef show or the Glimmer Twins or whatever, but no Stones without Charlie.
