IMO, Steel Wheels is a greatr album, and I think Its as good as ABB.
Moreover I rated each song of boths albuns, and the overall rating is:
Steel wheels: 8.75
ABB: 8.625
PD: You have to consider that ABB has 4 more songs.

I love SW as well and ABB is better than VL and BTB

ABB is far better than SW, but Bridges to Babylon is still the best since Some Girls.

I think SW is by far the worst album they have ever done, really bad! I think ABB is a a hundred times better.

Agree with darryljones and most others in this thread here, no reason to bash Sw, was a good and important album, ABB is good, too. Don't just expect another SF or Exile from them. This is the 21th century, not the 70s. I think it's a good sign their recordings over the last 15 - 20 years have about the same standard or level and they are not significantly getting worse which is very positive as they are growing older. If you like VL more or less than BtB or ABB is just a matter of taste.

Continewntal drift: stones comeback to psicodelic music.
HOYH: Best KR solo regarding technique.
ahys:best ballad of the 80s.
CANT BEE SEEN: Last KR rocking tune.
Sad Sad: great bass line by bill wyman (his best playing in a stones album__), plus grat solo by keff
blinded by love: a bit of ballad, a bit scoticsh song. Musically graet composition.
Slipping Away: one of the best and first KR jazzy tunes.
Break the speel: Outstanding bass line by MR ronnie wood.


Overall: I dont skip any song and IMO one of their great ones!

just because ahys is the best ballad of the 80's doesn't mean it's a classic.

I don't agree. I think Bridges To Babylon is better then A Bigger Bang. And I think Voodoo Lounge is even better. And I think Steel Wheels is EVEN better!

Thanks men! I like Tatoo, but also thinks its a bit overrated!!!Seems we have similar tastes towards music.

Everything they've done post 1978 pales to '78 and before. Steels Wheels always struck me as an "adult" album ala solo Eric Clapton which I've never been into. Not stuff that I would crank up at a party.

Although, ironically, I remember when SW came out, I was 20 and friends and I were driving around, drinking one night. There was no car stereo but all I had was a cassette of SW because it was brand new and there was a really crappy tape player like they used to have in grade school. We listened to that tape over and over again because it was the only music we had. I remember we would look forward to Sad, Sad, Sad and Hold on to your Hat, the rockers. I also remember thinking the Keith songs were not as good as anything on Talk is Cheap.

I don't like SW that much anymore, because I think it sounds too "cold" or too 80-ish (which I did not think when it came out)

Overall, ABB is a very good album, better than any studio release from the Stones after 1981 (except maybe Voodoo Lounge).
I don't forget that are some true gems on BtB, SW and some others.

Very true! I never listen to it.And even The Rolling Stones never play those numbers live! Why? Because it's shit!
But I enjoy all post Tattoo You albums, and I am greatful for ABB, I think it's pretty good.I only dont like LWTCDI,Sweet NeoCon,DTF.

Since the SW/UJ tour, Rock And A Hard Place was played a lot in 1995.
Slipping Away was played a lot in 1995, 2002 and 2003.

Sad Sad Sad was played maybe once in 94 and twice in 02.

a bigger Bust

A Bigger Bang really "cooks like a mother": it easily outplays both Steel Wheels and Vodoo Lounge. I like it even better than Bridges To Babylon, which still is one of my favourite Stones albums.
