Year 2005 - Terrible for new tapes ...?!
Posted by: Esky ()
Date: October 27, 2005 16:05

OK - in 2004 we saw some fantastic 1972 shows emerge as either upgrades or as amazingly "new" shows to collectors.

What has 2005 given us...?

NOTHING.

Not that I am angry about this - it's just the way it is....I guess.

Please - if anyone has any "unsurfaced" stuff - open it up!!! smiling smiley

Maybe Xmas gifts??

It does seem strange that nothing "new" has surfaced this year...????

Can somebody on this board please sell their body for a "new" show ??

Thanks
Esky

yeah but 1981 stuff was always coming, and will do until the whole is completely "released" in soundboard quality (which I hear is certain).

I'm thinking where are the 1969-->1973 shows ?? These are the most sought-after for collectors...??

Quite frankly those shows bore me.

2005 and 2006 will have enough shows to be bootleged because of the tour that the older stuff may be kept aside for years without tours...

Is there somewhere a really up-to-date (at least up to 2003) webpage with all the concert dates and bootlegs ?

whats out there is pretty much almost all there is

theres not going to be too many uncirculated audience tapes after all this time

Soundboards of course can pop up at any time but its a different ballgame entirely as you're relying on someone close to the band to 'leak' a recording

I agree Gaz - but we all know there have been recordings of most the 69-73 period which still hasn't surfaced.

Do people want to take their recordings to their grave....or will we care about them ?!

I doubt it, but you'll get a few people who will think "I have the only tape ever of a show" and hang onto the show for some silly reason....but how long will that last without them sending it to others...? It's all well and good having something "rare" but no-one cares who you are until you "release" it !! Why tell people or think to yourself you have the "best" version of a show if you aren't prepared to traded/sell it in now or the future ?? Is it ego?

Wouldn't you guys want the glory now?

But if you really hate bootleggers then keep it to yourself....but these days you can make sure the bootleggers don't get a big slice in the bootleg market - i.e. torrents, websites etc....

Time waits for no-one....

Okay, I guess I've been asleep at the wheel. Which 1972 shows turned up in the last year as either major upgrades or completely new shows not booted previously?

Thanks....

I just find it hard to believe that after all these years, they're still out there.

if anything turns up from that period, it genuinely IS a surprise

I'm just not as sure as you are that there are many more.

I do hate people who suffer from 'sit-on-itis' and hoard recordings for no logical reason

However, you might find that people all those years ago taped shows and were genuinely oblivious to the fact that people will want to hear them, either because they came out shitty (quite a reasonable assumption for the time), because theyre relatively unaware of the 'completist' nature of many collectors or simply because its never occurred to them that there are no other recordings of that show (the latter reason is basically how I tracked down the Auckland 73 show)

there was a rumour a while back of the other mannheim '73 show surfacing - but i havent seen it appear anywhere yet

....and remember last year a guy who was a Led Zepplin fan taped the MSG 1972 shows only to think they were "terrible" and kept them in his home without thinking they were worth much....well, they are nearly the Holy Grail !!!

It's funny what people think are worthwhile....I guess it doesn't help much when guys who do the hard work and "realese" their tapes only to get @#$%& say "what a shit recording" etc.... that doesn't halp at all !

To those tapers - it's only a few guys who are inconsiderate, don't let them drag down the rest of us !

Are there any soundboards of Licks and Bridges that have seen the light of day recently?

Cheers,

I think they should put Ron Wood's son in charge of the vaults!

I only tape for myself. I do let things out from time to time, but not everything. I do have a moderate quality new source BTB show but I think I think I will hang on to it until someone fills another request I placed on this board recently.
