The only thing that is in mind – they were trying to make a record that will sound good on cheap headphones with negligible bass response.
When Tokyo 1990 disc came with channels swap we contacted Eagle Rock via facebook with complainsQuote

Do you have a contact to go about at least trying to get a replacement cd if one exists? Or maybe if enough of us complain they’ll come up with one. Maybe start a whole new thread? Thank you for confirming it was not just me. My ears are the best test for me.

I saw yesterday the DVD from Japan Show of the Steel Wheels Deluxe and it seems to be just a VHS transfer to DVD. Just a little embarrassing

That. Period.
They should remix and remaster Voodoo Lounge Uncut, Bremen, Buenos Aires, and Atlantic City.
I can't believe they released them like this.

In case anyone was waiting for this to show up on US iTunes/Apple Music, it's there now

What else should they do? Release it on VHS in 2020? There's a lot of people who have never bought this show on bootleg and they want to buy it now officially. It is made clear that it's a SD Blu Ray. Personally, I think the picture quality is great.
Actually, all old CBS discs are mastered like that. Almost no compression and clipping.Quote

All very interesting. The wave charts above really do show that the "UM 2020" release really did what I would recognize as "brickwalling" and the frequency distribution curves do reinforce that.
Personally i think the first example above is what is about perfect: not clipped and not even approaching clip even on the loudest passages and meanwhile a nice clean waveform showing lots of delineation between quietest and loudest passages. My idea of digital perfection, not that compressed and louded up mess in the most recent issue.
I had an funny chat with the owner of the local record store last Saturday. I mentioned that he ordered all formats of Steel Wheels Live but DVD and 2CD/DVD. He proudly placed all those boxes together with Goats Head Soup Superdeluxe on the front display. His answer was - Nobody ask for DVD anymore. Everybody want Bluray. People have at home big screen HD TVs and they want the best video quality. I pointed him that it is SD Bluray and he gave me back a wink and a smile.Quote

Making me want this less and less and now you say the blu ray is VHS quality? Thats ridiculous if true, that anyone would put such degraded signal onto what is presumed to be state of the art media and therefore one would assume the content would be up to it, quality wise. Something they would do in Jamaica.

Anyone know why you can't buy the stand alone Blu Ray on Amazon in America?

great memories since the urban jungle tour was my first rs show but the overproduction of the show is almost unbearable now to watch/listen. though keith is probably at his top as a mature musician here (talk is cheap is one year old then!) and you can hear in his soloing, the band as a unit is lost in the production. examples: undercover, I would take the Shine a light trainwreck extra anytime before this, same with Bitch compared to the last recorded version on the Fonda theatre show. Midnight rambler, any "exhausting" long version from the latest tours I do prefer. 2000 light years from Glansto with Mick out of key I do prefer to this hyper-choreographed cheesy-synthesized version.

Just got my superdeluxe.
I must admit that Rare Reels were mastered by big fun of Bill Wyman. I would say - a bit too much bass.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now I know I'm not losing it. Mine was so awful and distorted all to hell I sent it back to Amazon and got a replacement, I figured must be a defective cd, same freakin thing!!! I should've just settled for the not so super-dee-duper just-gotta-have-it edition. Do the people who do the mastering even sit down and listen to these brickwalled cd's on a decent sound system before hitting the send button to the manufacturing department to go ahead a make the final pressings for eternity???...WHOEVER MASTERED RARE REELS OUGHT TO BE TAKEN OUT BEHIND THE GYM...COME ON MAN!!!
