Interesting long-winded post, but I think you overcomplicate things...

On one level, it is certainly "about the money"... every person who works for a living wants to get paid for what they do... surely that's not a foreign concept to you...

But on the other level, you can take Keith at his word... "... we're musicians... this is what we do..."

As for them being 60 years old... take a look at almost any symphony orchestra... there's plenty of 60 year olds there.... take a look at so many blues musicians in their 60's and 70's... how many country artists are in their 60s ?? Plenty.

Your logic seems to be... hey, play your songs when you're young, then just retire to the garden...

Would you also recommend that all those middle age Stones fans also quit their jobs ?

what should they do? by ur logic they should all go in a garage and hang themselves. i still enjoy seeing them live and always will. they are not embarassing themselves by playing tight, kick ass concerts.

Johnny Cash actually DID re-record a lot of his classic older songs in the latter part of his career

Even the much heralded "American Recordings" series included a few songs that he had recorded decades before

NYCSTONESFREAK, as they near the end of their careers (maybe) you are expecting something deeper and more meaningful out of the songs they are creating. You may have a good point. The songs that you enjoy the most seem to be the deeper, more heartfelt ones. All Stones albums are a mix of styles. They alway have been. ABB has a great mix of songs. If you look at all their albums there are rockers and ballads, heartfelt numbers and throw-a-way songs.

What more could they have to say? What would you want to see from them? They have been and continue to be a rock and roll band even at their age...is it not ok to be this way cause they are older?

The stage you are expecting from them may still be yet to come.

I don't hear any throwaways on Aftermath or Sticky Fingers.

I am baffled by people who think the stones should retire while they have thousands of fans, but I also agree with the original poster that I would have hoped for more insightful songs from them at this stage. Cash is a good example, or the bluesmen whom the stones are following by playing into their old age. I think that Back of My Hand and Laugh... are steps in the right direction, but mick's resistance to aging is a problem when it comes to flattening out his perspective on life. But it's a good thing when it comes to having an energetic bandleader, so there's a tradeoff, I guess.

They play what comes out of them and they will continue to do so until they die.
