I was at that show, right up front. The best show of the '78 tour! Nicely preserved on the "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" boot.

My first Stones show. Mid-South Coliseum. Front row dead center right in front of Mick. 14 years old. Fantastic!

Great version, heard it on one of the first Stones boots I bought, the Performances box set, which was a strange place for it to appear since its all studio outtakes besides that one song.

By the way, that is not the reason for my username here, that comes from my hound dog, his name is Johnny. Considered naming him Charlie.

Re: Handsome Hound Dog

are you still playing? I'm sure that p bass is classic sounding, priceless..I had a mid 70's one which was stolen a few years ago...I've been playing drums mostly for the last 5 years, the kit was my first instrument, but got into bass for years too. your bandleader is in a band called the someone and the Rank Outsiders, right? my friend here in Charlotte had a band called the Rank Outsiders, a rock and roots band! now we're the Bill Noonan Band...its crazy, but we're still rockin and digging the Stones...and quite a bit of Cajun/creole/zydeco spice is getting in there too.
didn't mean to hog the thread here, just saying hello..
thanks, DR

Leonard, is this the first time you've heard the Memphis show from '78?

Or were you just marveling once again -- as I still do -- over how awesome they were back then?

Interesting--if we're talking about the material on the "Handsome Girls" collection, then my favorite material for a notional 1978 tour playlist is mostly garnered from Ft. Worth and Detroit.

My info on the "Handsome Girls" sources comes from here:

[home.wanadoo.nl]

According to this site, only two songs from Memphis are included: "Shattered" (disc 3) and "Hound Dog" (disc 4).

The copy of the Memphis show I have is "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" It does mot have tracks 3. Star, Star or 7. Lies. Does anyone have the whole 1978 Memphis show?

Leonard - this is awesome! I first heard the Lazy Cowgirls on norwegian national radio, and I love Tapping the Source, and others! yeah, the hounddog version is amazing, the 78 tour was smashing! wathcing an allright dvd of the new orleans show now, and cool to see almost the whole some girls album in the middle of the set. also the Handsome Girls dvd is great! Leonard - can you mail me? here: ringo@broadpark.no

Can't agree more with the positive vibe of this thread!
That 'Hound dog' take on Handsome Girls is definitely one of the highpoints of all the Stones recordings.
