I wonder how long will it take on Friday for a flip from 'Even better than I thought it was going to be!' to 'It sucks, a missed opportunity'. winking smiley

Seems many people (mostly old timer fans) already ranked the original studio album fairly low, i.e. a major letdown after Exile, uneven, Angie sucked as a first single, horrible overall sound, Mister D is a joke, etc., etc., etc.
I was only ten when it was originally released, so none of that stuff phased me - I loved hearing Angie on the radio, my older brother had the album, and I thought the cover was cool and creepy looking. It wasn't until several years later I bought the album myself, but by then already loved it for what it was. In fact I've always love almost everything about it (Star Star is a bit weak imo), and look forward to the new deluxe package (two cd and two vinyl versions). I have a feeling it will be some of the old timers who used to criticize and rank it low it who will be the most vicious critics, and we've already seen some of that before it's released - i.e., a missed opportunity, Giles Martin will ruin it, not enough bonus tracks, why this and not that, etc., etc., etc. Funny though how much attention this album is now getting from the fans, but wonder how much attention it will garner with the general public? It's nearly a 50 yer old album w/a few extras thrown on to it...will anybody outside of Stones fandom really care? In contrast, based on the general success of Ghost Town, I imagine a brand new album would make a massive impact, and if they put as much time and energy into promoting it as they have this GHS oldie deluxe, the skies the limit. Maybe some day we'll find out...hopefully.

Exactly my point. For more > [iorr.org]

Concerning Brussels - Was Rocks Off played at that concert? Seems like that song would be included or was it not up to par?

No, I think they only played it a few times on that tour.

Rocks Off wasn’t played in Europe ‘73 - it was played in Australia that year, then once in ‘75, then not until ‘94.

I don't think I've heard a boot of the '75 version of Rocks Off, but I imagine Ronnie must have butchered it beyond recognition.

You can hear it here: [youtu.be] . Ronnie’s more or less fine, but Mick doesn’t know any of the words, Charlie doesn’t do any of those cool syncopated fills which make the song swing, and this song really needs horns. I can see why it was dropped after one performance.

You might think they would at least listen to the record before attempting to perform the song. Especially if you are cloudy on the lyrics and/or phrasing.

But, no.

I got the GOATS HEAD SOUP 2020 SUPER DELUXE VINYL BOX SET, but I regret it a little bit. There's no book or posters or other fun stuff. Stupid of me. I should've bought the other box! sad smiley

BUT I really love the sound quality and I love the instrumental version of Heartbreaker. Filled with mystery and coolness!

Same for me. As I already had Brussels Affair on CD (from Ward Records), I went for the 4 LP version. Was quite disappointed to find only the LP's in the big box. Not even a booklet or extra photos... Also I find the LP's sleeves quality not at the level of a "deluxe" edition : paper's quite thin and print quality is not as good as an original LP.
But... now I have Brussels on vinyl and I must say the new mix of GHs is quite alright on vinyl (not as boomy as the digital version).

If Mick Jagger had his way, the "Goats Head Soup"
album cover would've been a lot more literal.

Earlier this week, the Rolling Stones' Twitter account shared
alternate artwork for the band's 1973 album, which will be re-released
Friday. Among the prospective covers: A goat peering out from a
simmering pot, nodding to the album's Jamaican origins. (It was mostly
recorded in Jamaica, where the soup, known as "mannish water," is a delicacy.)

The goat's head was my idea and it didn't really work out,"
Jagger tells USA TODAY. "The record company didn't like it, so
we went with the more user-friendly portraits of the band in the end."

It looks like mobile service app will not have it for a long time. I would like to have the CDs and download - Would they discount if I got both? I'm not very knowledgeable in this area.

Dunno. Someone mentioned here - [iorr.org] - that he just bought the GHS2020 2CD on Amazon and got as Auto-Rip the whole Deluxe-Edition (MP3).

But this is just a mistake by [www.Amazon.de] - "AutoRip - Buy the CD for €17.99 and get the MP3 version for FREE."

On [www.Amazon.com] it's: "AutoRip - Buy the Vinyl album for $107.99 and get the MP3 version for FREE."

It seems like that the Stones are surprised by this unexpected global interest! Universal excitement may have led to current marketing and distribution confusion.

I don't know who they get to write this claptrap, but that is not correct. GHS is not "mannish water".

Edit:

evidently i do not know my ass from a hole in the ground so I have to retract that statement. Still, doesn't seem right to me, Mannish Water in my experience is a very strong mix of herbs and roots. Thats out in the country mongst country people.

end edit

And we all do know, this so called "alternate cover" was actually an insert in the original LP.

The claptrap is correct. Why would you say something like that when they were in Jamaica and learned about it? That's ridiculous.

Manish water or goat head soup, is reportedly an aphrodisiac. Made from goat's head (some cooks include the tripe and feet as well). Mannish water is often cook at street events (called street dance in Jamaica). Mannish water is a rarity on restaurant menus-its usually sold at roadside kitchen (stands) Mannish water is authentic and tasty.
