Very tragic news.
Thoughts with the family members and loved ones of all the victims.

This clip of Doc Rivers responding to the news is a heartbreaker.

Yup, just watched that on ESPN. Made me tear up.

Kareem was pretty torn up, too. Even though I was a die hard Sonic fan, Kareem is my favorite player of all time. It took awhile but my respect for Kobe as a player grew as he grew up. I mean 60 points in the last game of a 20 year career, wow.

I hated Kobe. His Lakers beat my beloved Indiana Pacers for the 2000 title. I hated that somehow they managed to sneak him onto the Lakers, of all teams. But I feared/respected his talent and drive. I just wish he could have been on my team, and not a team with an overabundance of stars. I understand he was different. Grew up in the NBA world via his father, 'Jellybean' Bryant. After his NBA career, his father took his family, Kobe included, to Italy. Bryant was fluent in Italian. He had an international outlook. It's a sad day for the NBA.

Reading about it more, it 'appears' they were flying into fog - it sounds similar to what happened to JFK JR when his plane went down, several years ago.

Very sad, much more so knowing that there were a few kids on board as well.

Yes, very rare for Jack to give voice interviews. It's almost impossible to find video of him being interviewed.

He is sounding rough. Hard to believe he's 82. I miss his acting, but at his age, it's probably best to just remember him as he was.

A tough one to watch from the legendary Jerry West - usually a quiet, soft spoken, and stoic man.

Jerry West stunned by Kobe Bryant’s death | NBA on ESPN

I met Jerry several times throughout the years - from when he was member of the Lakers, playing basketball with his sons at the Santa Monica Boys Club early-mid '70's,
to when he was general manager of the Lakers, and as recently as a few years ago at the airport when we were on the same flight - always very kind and friendly.

Sad to think Kobe was only 41...he accomplished so much in those years. Very sad...

Thinking about the three young girls on the helicopter really gets me. I'm sad for everyone who passed, but those girls didn't even get a chance to begin their lives. Tragic.

Looks like fog maybe contributed to the crash. After Bill Graham died, Keith said, “No more night flights in a helicopter for me.” Keith nous.

word is Vanessa Bryant learned of the crash via TMZ. that's terrible. there is a big petition out via change.org to try & get FOX to drop the show. probably won't happen but the sentiment is worthy.

Heard bits of an interview with him today on news radio > KNX1070

"Harvey Levin, the founder of TMZ told KNX In-Depth that his staff had permission from "Kobe's people" to release the information.
Levin says he was tipped off by a law enforcement source about the accident and that his staff held the story for a full hour before publicly releasing it".

helicopters are death traps, ive been on some but never again after what happened in leicester last year when one crashed after the owner and 4 others left the stadium then came crashing seconds later.

most crashes are caused by gearbox failures, which usually sends them into an uncontrolable spin.

the only way to reduce the spin is to slow the rotors which also reduces the helicopters lift ability, so it falls faster, once a helicopter spins it usually crashes the chances of surviving are very slim,

its very sad to hear of another crash, better to fly with a proper airline company, airplanes are much safer.

After postponing their game the other night, the Lakers will play their first game tonight at Staples Center .
Pregame ceremony/tribute at 7:00 PM (pacific) on ESPN.

"The shirts in the Staples Center are split between No. 24 and No. 8 as Bryant wore both numbers for the team". Lakers

Damian Lillard had a very Kobe-like performance in the game. Fabulous player.
