Looks like there will be a Let It Bleed-release soon. Could be another hi-fi release like TSMR and BB, though. Thanks to Cristiano for digging this up thumbs up

I wouldn't hold your breath. It's ABCKO so it's likely to be the album in mono and stereo, Honky Tonk Women single, the vinyl and a book. All for about $75/£75.

I think you misunderestimate ABKCO. I would put the price in the range $150 ;(
TSMR 50th anniversary was about $80 and that one had no hardbackbook and other extras.

11 sept 1968 Incidental Music From A Degree of Murder by Brian Jones 29p. London Leeds Music EF33064

Interesting! Can you tell me more about this file/info?

ABKCO have copyright on this?

Oops, that was just something else I wanted to see at the Library Of Congress in addition to the Jagger / Richards papers, it's sheet music for Degree Of Murder. I've been looking out for a copy for years.
I believe it was available for a short time in 1968, owned and published by Leeds Music iirc.
It's not owned by ABKCO and ABKCO confirmed to me that they do not have any of the tapes for the soundtrack.

Release “Criss Cross” as a worldwide single. Although Jagger would probably want something with his new vocal.

There probably could be a Goats Head bonus. It would be amazing to have Jagger sing on the stunning “Separately” instrumental with Nicky Hopkins’ piano.

IMO, Criss-Cross Mind quickly runs out of steam and becomes rather boring.

Adding vocals on Separately, however, is a brilliant idea! thumbs up

Totally agree with you concerning Criss-Cross Mind. It starts out strong, but something's lacking that maintains the listener's interest. It soon meanders along aimlessly and, as you said, becomes rather boring. A surprising instrumental bridge like in Everything's Turning To Gold or Shattered could have lifted the track tremendously.

Separately, however, is such a hauntingly beautiful instrumental that I have a hard time imagining a vocal melody that would fit or not destroy it (what imo actually happened with Aladin Story/So Divine where I still prefer the instrumental). Therefore, getting the instrumental Separately in perfect quality is still one of my wet dreams...

I agree with both of you. I'm just posting and agreeing here to say that I think the best and most proper version of "Criss Cross Mind" was the one released on that Japanese soundtrack in the 80s; which clocked in at about 1:50. I remember the time I only had that version - I was aking to get to listen to the entire thing. But when I did.....what a letdown - it goes from cooking to tiresome after about 2 minutes. Almost like "Travellin' Man" - the 1970 outtake; or Send It To Me.

Ash, I must say that was the best post I've read on iorr (or anywhere, for that matter) in years. Cheers to you.

Yep, an amazing post, well done !

@iraq0708 - there are no known ABB outtakes AFAIK ? B2B on the other hand, yes ;-)

no KNOWN ABB outtakes----not known to US here but....someone somewhere...there must be some stuff leftover. Maybe they will show up on the next LP..?!

Is it safe to assume that going forward all vault releases will be from '71 on?
Clearly ABKCO has nothing. TSMR, BB, and Let it Bleed Anniversary sets are all duds. Kind of disappointing that the next vault release is another "Bridges" tour release. Bought the last one, won't buy the new one because I already have everything on it. Something from '76 would have been very welcomed. I have kind of given up on anything from '72 minus L&G ever being released. At this point I can't wait for '89 Atlantic City.

If you check my (rather long post) on the previous page you'll get an explanation of sorts for the lack of anything interesting from ABKCO.
I am pretty certain that it's not because they don't have anything but because they cannot futz with the original albums or release anything "new" under the terms of the settlement contract between them and the Stones.
I would assume that if Mick and co. were agreeable then there would be some kind of resolution but even in a recent-ish interview, a Stones representative politely made it clear that Mick and the Stones organisation are not happy about ABKCO owning their stuff and would be keen to regain control and on that basis I can't see any co-operation happening.
So as I said, The Monkees back catalogue has been dealt with better than the Stones...at least twice courtesy of Andrew Sandoval and Rhino's heroic efforts.
Now I like The Monkees but.....
That doesn't excuse ABKCO releases trumpeting the expensive re-release of a mono fold-down at a deluxe price or not having decent sleeve notes with details of the relevant recording sessions and tape box porn which every single other major post-1950 artists label has managed.

Ash-I read your extremely well written and accurate post. That is what spawned my post. I guess my point is, were kind of dreaming expecting anything solid o r well done pre 1970. I'm someone who would rather accept bad news then dream about things that will definitely not happen.

heres a solution.

stones make abkco a very good offer, buy all their songs back and then release to their hearts content.

who owns the outtakes from the 60,s, there are many, and instrumentals some of which are great.

So the sheet music was published for a short while in 1968. That would be cool to find!

Possible that the copyright protection thing might affect any (as of now) pre 1969 releases of previously unreleased recordings.

Yep I think it was published as sheet music. I'm hoping that a visit to the British Library might yield results but I'm tied up with a lot of different projects at present....this one is on my extensive list.

I think the Stones non-participation in promoting any ABKCO new product says everything. ABKCO probably releases exactly what it legally is allowed to. Without their Stones catalogue, ABCKCO would be practically irrelevant. I wish they'd get this mess cleaned up before I'm Knock, Knock, Knockin' at Heavens Door.

When I last listened to “Criss Cross” I thought it opened up kicking butt. Now I can’t really remember the ending so maybe it does peter out.

The majority of Warhorses played at the concerts helps Abkco's product plenty.

It's kind of a fascinating way to look at the current band. I did some quick back-of-the-napkin figuring: They played 329 selections on the most recent leg of No Filter: 176 (53%) were ABKCO; 153 (47%) were later.

I think "Play With Fire" was the oldest ABKCO tune (Feb/March 1965) they played; the Let It Bleed songs (Dec 1969) were the newest ABCKO songs performed. That means that over half of their current setlist comes from songs released during a 4.5 year window out of a nearly 60-year history!

Is it also safe to say that 4.5 year window is between 68-72?

Re: Is that it for 'Deluxe Bonus' albums?

for most stones tours, from mid 70,s to present, with the unusual exception of 1981-82. the mid point of a typical stones gig would be 1971 when listed in chronological order.

yet the midpoint of a stones gig in 1981-82 would be post 1976, only 5 or so years earlier than the concert itself.

so history has proven that an abkco dominated setlist is not always needed.

1981-82 tours were dominated by the combination of some girls and tattoo you.

No, I was referring to the 65-69 ABCKO-era window. The 68-72 window would include Sticky Fingers and Exile material (non-ABCKO, of course).

There wasnt. I think it was Keith who said at the time that they released every song they worked on. Thats borne out by the fact that all of the alternate takes and mixes in circulation come from the Sterling Sound mastering session that I circulated several years ago (they only circulate in mp3 format. The guy I got them from had a hard drive crash and lost the lossless versions)

Putting 23 year old outtakes on a 'new' studio album is a world away from putting 2-3 year old outtakes on Tattoo You. It would be the ultimate in barrel scraping.

I got that. My fault. Let me re-word that to a "similar window".

Maybe there are a few certain tracks that could. So Young had been a "recyclable" track to work with.

There are some very good unreleased tracks that have been floating around unofficially for many years and would be well worthy of official release. I'm sure they would sound so much better in pristine quality. I agree that we're a long way
from barrel scraping.

The quality isnt the issue. Filling an album with 20 year old leftovers is insane and smacks of utter desperation. Who else would do that? Thankfully the Stones wont. They'd be better just giving up if they were that bereft of inspiration.

That stuff belongs on 'anthology' style releases. Not on a 2020 'studio' album.
