Stew played on Carol and Queenie at MSG 69

And HTW.

Yes indeed sir. Ian Stewart was a brilliant player. Like when Bill left, the band could never get that unique sound.

thumbs up

Nicky did it right too. It also is a mix thing. With Stu and Nicky they pretty much had that piano woven into the fabric, and it was up to the player himself to get heard.
Maybe Leavell has it in his contract: "Never below 9 on the faders!"

And it's also very much the kind of piano -until 1982 they used proper acoustic piano's, and even Chuck Leavell sounded good on that tour (his playing was distracting though). It's really since they started using these electric piano's that it truly sounds like shit.

In English, a keyboard is literally any part of an instrument with keys. Piano to Harpsichord to Nord Lead. It doesn't mean electric etc.

A grand piano has a keyboard. A keyboard is used as shorthand for an electric piano if it doesn't have legs to it. drinking smiley

A piano is a keyboard instrument, but is usually not refereed to as a 'keyboard'.

I have often wondered why there is a piano audible on the Get Yer YaYa's live album. Is it an overdub, or did Ian Stewart actually play on stage? If you listen to the Oakland November 9, 1969 soundboard recording

there is no piano to be heard on any of the songs.

Yes I have wondered why there is a freakin trombone on "Carol". Not even Mathijs could figure that one out.

Where was that again?

It's during one of the last double stops. I am going to go find the time. It is actually the last stop. At 3:13. It must be some kind of guitar; The second guitar seems to be playing some descending line on D and A string.

Mathijs

I actually sounds like some static, or tube amp or tape crackle or something. Doesn't sound like an instrument to me when I listen to it now.

Yes, because it has a keyboard. A pianoforte is also a chordophone.
