Do you think the Stones will mention Brian at the concert on Wednesday night? Thoughts anyone

And will someone do a remembrance to Brian with a Poem (and Butterflies) in London Hyde Park, Speakers Corner?

If it's butterflies, please take better care of them than the first time!

I was thinking more of something like Hyde Park 2013 .... [iorr.org] .

There's already a discussion about this in the main Landover thread. I hope they pull out a song from his era he contributed a lot to. Paint it Black was one of those so I hope at the very least he gets a mention before they play it. Brian was no saint, but without him, there never would have been a Rolling Stones.

Bobby Womack (Belgium 2014) and B.B. King (Los Angeles 2015) were remembered by them. In 2013 they even played a snippet of Come On in Toronto, remembering the 50th anniversary of its release, so I think Brian will definitely be mentioned on the next concert. No Expectations on the B-Stage would be great, but I guess Get Off my Cloud will be their choice to remember Brian.

I'll bet there's utter silence. They may not even be aware of the date.

Indeed. I don´t think they care for it.

...and I bet 85% of the crowd would not even know who the guy was that Mick is talking about. People hardly know who is sitting behind the drum kit and they never ever heard anything about a guy called Bill Wyman.

Yes it’s probably not a date they remember every year. Someone should
mention this to them this year.

It would however have been nice if one of the TV Channels managed to produce a documentary on Brian.
Focussing on his life rather than the events surrounding his death.
The must be some people who would be willing to be interviewed out there and contribute to a reasonably balanced and mature resume of his life.
It could be there is a problem getting film footage clearance perhaps? Or use of recorded material maybe of course.
Heck, we've had plenty of films made of lesser musicians.

That would be so wrong. If Brian hadn't come into their lives, they would probably have been very different. But it's up to them what they choose to do.

On my 700 mile drive in from Chicago to D.C, I was wondering if they will acknowledge Brian at the concert Wednesday; because he died on 7/3 50 years ago.

I remember Ian Astbury dedicating American Horse to Brian Jones on 7-3-1989 at Pine Knob in Clarkston, MI. I felt like I was the only one there that knew who he was talking about.

Bill Wyman remembers 'absolutely brilliant’ Rolling Stones bandmate Brian Jones, 50 years later

I´m 51 soon, so I was on this earth when he was still alive!

Anyway, my favourite picture: It tells a lot about him.
Shortly before they enter the stage at Münchens Cirkus Krone,
14.9.1965. Surrounded by police Brian smokes, the sign on the
wall reads: "Rauchen polizeilich verboten"
(Smoking prohibited by the police) spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

A true genius and part of the myth of this band.

I would be pleasantly surprised if Mick does mention Brian Jones at the gig on Wednesday.
I will be even more pleasantly surprised if they played No Expectations or any other 'Brians Song' .

My good feelings about our four lads in the band will definitely go up a notch if it did happen. thumbs up

Difficult to imagine how they could integrate a mention of Brian into tomorrow's show without it (unfortunately) being entirely lost on most of the audience, a great many of whom in all probability would simply stare at one another and say "who's Mick talking about" ? But I agree with you, it would indeed be nice to hear one such mention ... 50 years is a f***ing long time and one big 'anniversary' !

My good feelings about The Stones would go up even one more notch if there were some different pics of Brian coming up on one of the big screens.
Would maybe put casual fans or younger fans...………. 'in the picture ' so to speak as to who Brian Jones was......and is, to most of us on IORR. thumbs up

I’m not holding my breath for it, but it has been reported that the band rehearsed Mercy, Mercy before the tour started.

Last time the song was played was at Hyde Park 50 years ago - a concert that was dedicated to Brian. Don Covay also has a connection to Washington DC, so they have an opportunity to acknowledge Brian and a local artist, which they’ve been known to do.

I popped over to Cotchford today- very quiet, almost surreal atmosphere in the little lane. Gosh, 50 years ago tonight... RIP fella x

Brain also played the main motif on their recording.

Mercy, Mercy would a nice and subtle tribute.

They should have "NO JONES, NO STONES" flash across the giant screens, along with special commemorative t-shirts and other merch avaialable w/same quote.
