ABB, still on Top 10 (#8) worldwide. That’s very good…

…with 5 new entries on universal Top 10! ABB sold in it’s 5th week 186, 100 copies. Total sales of the album, almost 1.6 million copies worldwide.

Some notable new entries on the Top 50 (first week of the following albums):
Sheryl Crow at # 4 (251,000)
Neil Young at #14 (146,900)
The Corrs at #15 (137,300)
Franz Ferdinard at #41 (55,000). To be honest, the so poor sales of Franz Ferdinard surprise me, unless this is not a “normal”, “full” univeral first week for them.

Macca at #29 in his third week (79,000) and Simple Minds hardly on the top 50 in their third week. At #50 (43.400)

(Georgelicks, where are you?)

Total sales so far: 1.581,700 after 5 weeks of sales.
I expect a heavy slide next week but the album will break the 2 million mark before of christmas.

That number only includes Japan and few other countries sales. Only in UK the album went straight at #1 this week with sales of 102k. It will be the #1 worldwide next week.

"I expect a heavy slide next week but the album will break the 2 million mark before of christmas."

I can understand it. For 14 days the album sells every week the 65% of the last one. Even keeping the same analogy (which i think is a good one), next week ABB will sell about 120,000, right? Maybe less. Mmmm... "Smells" like #25? Anyway...

PS Georgelicks, you have great statistics since ....really, when?? I mean, can you write the WORLDWIDE sales of every Stones album? And the exact US-UK sales, perhaps? I am asking it as a favour... You know, the stats about "platinum" or "gold" are not clear. An album in UK can be mentioned as "gold" with 102,000 or with 198,000 copies sold. Right?

I can't sadly, I only can write aprox. numbers. The US sales are more easy to get but only post 1991 figures, the Stones moved almost 21,400,000 copies during the Soundscan era, they're #39 on the US artist sales rank during the post 1991 sales.

BESTSELLING ALBUM ARTISTS OF THE SOUNDSCAN ERA (1991-NOW)

(rank, units in 1000s, artist)

1. 66,119 Garth Brooks
2. 51,202 The Beatles
3. 47,607 Metallica
4. 46,920 Celine Dion
5. 46,317 Mariah Carey
6. 35,504 George Strait
7. 32,727 Shania Twain
8. 31,729 Alan Jackson
9. 31,717 Kenny G
10. 31,516 Pink Floyd
11. 30,849 Tim McGraw
12. 30,187 Backstreet Boys
13. 29,572 U2
14. 29,167 Eminem

37. 21,561 Guns & Roses
38. 21,427 Michael Bolton
39. 21,360 The Rolling Stones
40. 21,022 Toby Keith

Other interesant numbers:
44. 19,462 Led Zeppelin
75. 15,413 Fleetwood Mac
79. 15,224 Bruce Springsteen
84. 14,787 Bob Dylan
99. 13,778 Grateful Dead

A couple of interesting entries below 100:

Jimi Hendrix scanned 13,383,000 copies (not bad for a man who is dead for 35 years!);
The Beach Boys did 11.5 million; Marvin Gaye 11 million; Johnny Cash 10.8; Miles Davis 9.5; Creedence Clearwater Revival 8.5 mil; Simon & Garfunkel and also Radiohead 8 million.

>>>You know, the stats about "platinum" or "gold" are not clear. An album in UK can be mentioned as "gold" with 102,000 or with 198,000 copies sold. Right?

That's right, actually SG, ER, TY and VL surpassed the 200k mark.

Hi Georgelicks, awesome list. Thanks for all the stats you provide us. Question regarding Soundscan. Do they count double CD's as 2 sold similar to RIAA?

Couple comments on the list:

1) Really shows how country music exploded in the States after Garth became huge.
2) How many CD's has Pink Floyd released since 91? Studio album in 94 and then the tour with the live Pulse being released shortly after and then the Echos best of? Sure have sold alot of CD's.
3) Metallica at #3! Black album released in 91. Lots of new fans going out buying their back catalog. Similar to AC/DC in 1980 with Back In Black.
4) Who is Enya?
5) Frank Sinatra outsold the Stones?!

ABB has stopped dropping in Norway! Can't remember any Stones-album doing so earlier.
