Undercover of the Night

One hit to the body.

Truer words were never written.

Here it is, live, 1989 Toronto: [www.youtube.com]

The beauty of this is there is zero need to click on the link to see/hear a pathetic song played live pathetically.

They messed up the intro. Almost like "She's So Cold" at Wembley 1982. That is probably the reason they scrapped it for the rest of the tour. Otherwise it's not that bad.
I would much rather hear this one than "Miss You" for the 950th time. They should trust their new material more.

It´s shocking to find it on Honk, btw.

Ronnie's slide solo, which is magnificent, falls on deaf ears yet again.

Nothing new with your reappearance, the same ol' tired BS.

Please continue spewing your fake Stones fandom.

MJ´s vocal performance on Out Of Tears is most ridiculous, the very worst vocal treatment he ever gave to a song. Sounds like a very bad self-parody. As for the song itself - it´s rather boring stuff, no magnificent slide solo could ever turn this desaster in something listenable. In fact you´d have to tie me to a chair and point a pistol to my chest to make me listen to this worst, at least most ridiculous Stones-song of all time. I don´t like Streets Of Love but I´d rather listen to it 24 h a day than listen to Out Of Tears one single time. Mostly thanks to Mick´s vocals OOT is just unbearable, IMHO.

They didn't scrap it for the rest of the tour, did they? I thought they played it six or seven times..

Checked it up for you, Dandy. Apparently the song was played 18 times in 1989. Between August 31 in Philadelphia and November 15 in Miami: [www.setlist.fm]

Thanks. So they kept it in the setlist for a good third of the tour, then.

I know it's the obvious choice but it's the one one song that brought me back into a Stones groove at the time...

'Love Is Strong'

Honourable Mention

(I Go Wild)

Another great uber Stonsey song that sounds great played loud...

All of these TY-threads could have been in the album talk. Lots of info will be difficult to retrieve and search for later, because of the multiple threads discussing the same album.

Of course the one that starts with the glorious line "You fell out of the clear blue sky to the darkness below".

No matter what, it was flat, and it's not a very good song. They played it for about 20 shows or so so they did give it a chance. It revealed itself as being lame, so out of respect for their catalogue, they dropped it.

Smart move.

Your honest opinion is based in trollism ie purposely deaf to great songs, defiantly against critical and peer reviewed assertations to great albums and songs, and magnetically attracted like a dung beetle to crap, and is always wrong.

A brilliant example of fake fandom.

I think One Hit is a GREAT song, one of the few glimmers of decent music on Dirty Work, but it's terrible live. They just couldn't get the timing and atmosphere of it right.

I've always liked One Hit but it's pedestrian, really. It sounds like they said 'Eh, good enough' and never worked on it. Which obviously set the tone for the future with such glorious evacuations like Winning Ugly, Might As Well Get Juiced, Gunface, Hold On To Your Hat and on and on and on.

I remember Ronnie trying to sell it as being vital Stones, gushing about it being like Street Fighting Man. Jimmy Page apologizing for what he did on the solo because he probably realized it's just not a good song and he couldn't do anything worth a damn.

Anton Fig played the drums on the original, and Charlie just can't get the beat right. It has certain drum licks like crashes on the downbeat, which Charlie never does, and it sounds super unnatural when he tries to play it live.

Jimmy apologized for the solo? Do you have a quote for that?

Honestly, the way Mick sings on Out Of Tears is just laughable, it´s way over the top. How is it possible that a man of great musical taste and musical knowledge like you does not recognize that? Any other opinions on Out Of Tears from other members are highly welcomned.

I think Out of Tears is a perfectly serviceable latter-day Stones ballad. His singing does descend into melodramatic mawkishness at times.

I'll take it any day over Already Over Me and Always Suffering.
