Cover songs reflecting Jagger-Richards relationship

Well, there I was, reading through the KR talks new album thread and the bit about Cry To Me. And, with apparently too much time on my hands, I thought, "What cover songs would it be really wicked of the Stones to do reflecting the history of Mick and Keith and their history in the band?" I came up with two that would be pretty off beat, but wild to do in concert or on an album: Suspicious Minds and You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

Imagine M and K leaning together into a microphone onstage and belting out "We're caught in a trap, I can't walk out" and then the band doing a jam with M and K crooning the chorus "We can't go on together with suspicious minds". You can hear the horn section blasting away while the backup singers coo away. It'd be something and, if you're a dedicated follower of the band and know M and K's history, an amazing take on themselves. Similar idea with You've Lost That Loving Feeling. I can only wonder which one would take the line "Baby, baby, I get down on my knees for you, if you would only love me like you used to do."

So, if you have some idle time on your hands, ask yourself, "What other songs out there would fit this category?"

I would conclude that this topic is very off beat as you say. "Suspicious Minds" (Presley) and You've Lost That Loving Feeling (Righteous Brothers) are strictly love songs and have nothing to do with band issues between men.

There are already songs in their own catalogue that can be interpreted that way, if you're so inclined. That's true of more than one rock band. No need to cover songs that aren't their style.

The Way We Were

Mick to Keith:

Memories light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored memories of the way we were
Scattered pictures of the smiles we left behind
Smiles we gave to one another for the way we were

Keith to Mick:

Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again
Tell me, would we?
Could we?

Mick and Keith together in harmony as Charlie and Ronnie slowly approach from either side of the stage:

Memories may be beautiful and yet
What's too painful to remember
We simply choose to forget
So it's the laughter we will remember
Whenever we remember
The way we were
The way we were

And with that the show is over and not a dry eye in the house...

Well if y'all must I offer this classic: Easily in song discernable of who is who. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out source: we all know who this is!!

And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and ev'ry highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do , I saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the highway
And more, much more than this, I did it my way

Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
And through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way

I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill, my share of losing
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing
To think I did all that
And may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way"

For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
The right to say the things he feels and not the words of one who kneels
The record shows I took the blows and did it my way!

I like The Way We Were as a choice. It fits. M and K are like a long term couple who’ve experienced love and its changes through time. First, there’s the excitement of finding one another. Plans are made, a life together is started and built. Happiness and discovery reigns. Then, life gets in the way. One member of the relationship wants what they’ve always had; the other is wondering if the grass is greener elsewhere. They grow apart. They bicker. They fight. They separate for awhile. They reconcile, but things are never the same. That’s the premise of my asking what cover songs could be played by them to reflect Mick and Keith’s coupleship.

On another note, for the North America tour, imagine Barbra Streisand coming out and dueting with Mick and or Keith on The Way We Were. I know, it boggles the mind, but if Dylan can croon Sinatra, why not the Stones and Streisand together?

So, have some fun and let us know what song(s) you think reflect the Glimmer Twins.

Guitar Man by Bread (Mick can sing most of it, maybe Keith the last verse or two which seem first-person).

Who draws the crowd
And plays so loud
Baby, it's the guitar man
Who's gonna steal the show
You know, baby
It's the guitar man

He can make you love
He can make you cry
He will bring you down
Then he'll get you high

Something keeps him going
Miles and miles a day
To find another place to play

Night after night
Who treats you right
Baby, it's the guitar man
Who's on the radio
You go listen to the guitar man

Then he comes to town
And you see his face
And you think you might
Like to take his place

“The fact is, we’ve been together 50 years, and 99 percent of the time we’re cool with each other. The 1 percent that we ain’t, everybody hears about it. It’s a drop in the bucket. Big f------ deal.”

Keith could sing "Hole in the Ground" by Bernard Cribbins.

Mick would be "...the bloke in the bowler hat "
