Laughable.

If the writer,Edward McClelland, received money for writing this rubbish, he owes them.

I thought it was written partially tongue-in-cheek - not to be taken dead seriously and/or to be offended by it- and he did make some valid points.

Why only a free show in Chicago? Why not a free tour altogether? Or even better, why don't they pay us for going to the shows? Plus a free dinner, and limo service. And autographs for everybody on every continent. And for all aliens who happen to be in nearby space, and ... hot smiley

I have never heard that story about Wolf before. Sounds similar to the Furry Lewis incident in 75 in Memphis.

I remember the Wolf story in the Sun-Times. I was at the second show, and I remember looking around to try to see if Wolf was there.

But it was in 1975, not 1972.

Stones don't owe Chicago a free show, Chicago is getting 2 shows. Free shows should be in places like Havana where people can't afford it and it means something bigger.

Saw that the other day and actually got a little angry. No band owes anyone anything, it's a business. This writer needs to piss off.

"“Hello everybody,” Furry told the 51,500. “You know, I was out on the street one day and I was so-o-o hungry. I was walkin’ and walkin’ and then spied some ladies sittin’ on a porch and I said, please gimme somethin’ to eat. One of them ladies looked at me and said, ‘Come on back in the house an’ I’ll raise my dress a little while."

If Chicago gets one so does St. Louis - Chuck Berry was their single biggest inspiration.

The Double Door bar show for $10 in 1997 and the Aragon Ballroom show for $50 in 2002. Really? They owe us?

My immediate thought was that the Stones (& others .....) made the Blues 'stars'. Howling wolf seems to back this up saying "I wasn’t able to do nothing with it. When all the goodness was coming to musicians, I was on the way out. I never made too much. My records never done too good." - in other words, largely obscure........

Yes, the Stones made a shed full of money but they also helped bring the fantastic Blues to the masses ........which wasn't being done much before - a great service - my take is that the whole relationship was one of symbiosis - as are all the best, healthiest relationships.........(imo of course)......

I wonder how much money, in terms of service revenue has been pumped into the Chicago economy as a direct result of bands coming back and playing this 'stolen music' in massive stadiums since the 1960's............

Free show? Everyone loves a free show..........winking smiley

That reporter comes across, to me, as a spiteful, jealous little man.........not worth much of anyone's time........
