I passed a copy of the whole tape, there are more songs all in perfect quality. Carly is delighted to have it and thanked me for sending it. I will let her decide what she would like to say about it. Having been chased by many news outlets I gave a brief interview for AP which is as much as I am prepared to say. In summary, I found it on an old tape and having seen the story about Carly looking for it I sent it to Rolling Stone who had agreed to forward it to her.

Nice job Matt, and you're looking quite dapper in the AP video.

I really hate myself on camera, especially when I am being mega careful about what I say and end up saying "you know" far too much. Pleased with the jacket choice though ;-)

I'll be in London on Dec. 24th and again on Dec.30/31. Any chance I could see your amazing collection? (Not the best choice of dates, I know, but that's when I'm there. If it's not possible I completely understand!)

Having now heard all the tracks, a number of times, the quality is superb and the content is outstanding. Very cool that this dip into the past has resurfaced. Exciting stuff, do not let anyone tell you otherwise!

Isn't that a shame? That is just whack.

Carly Simon has posted a great photo of her, possibly taken in 1969, of her gazing lovingly at the Let It Bleed album poster.

She's also wearing what appears to be a replica of Mick's 1969 tour Omega t-shirt.

On the post, made yesterday, she simply wrote, "Here's looking at you".

I wonder if she's teasing a release of the song that she and Mick supposedly wrote together in 1972, and which was taped on the same day of You're So Vain recording. The tape allegedly went missing after the recording session.

A copy of the song came into the possession of our own Matt Lee, the world's No1 collector of Rolling Stones' memorablia, who, according to reports, passed it onto to Rolling Stone magazine to return to Carly.

Matt - over to you. Do you know if the tape was passed back to Carly?

Yes, the full story is a long story but in short ChrisL found the tape in my archives while we were researching Hot Stuff. We spent the best part of two years going through my stuff every Saturday picking out what to put in the book. The tape was mysteriously named CS/MJ and ChrisL had seen a piece where Carly had appealed to find the tape. Well it was there in my archive ;-)

I contacted her to say I had it and would she like it but at first no one appeared to believe me. I just sent the whole thing (not a sample) and Carly was delighted. I think the only thing her and her team couldn’t then believe was that I didn’t want anything. I might be a keen collector but I do have standards, it’s her recording, I wasn’t going to stick it in an auction and let her bid.

I actually listen to it a lot… it’s crystal clear with chatting and the sound of pouring and drinking between tracks, it’s just like being in the room.

That's very honourable of you Matt. I hope you had a reply directly from Carly and not her management for such a kind gesture.

Do you know who owns the copyright to the recording. I presume that if it was her recording time then she would be take the lead in ownership rights.
