Could not agree with you more Four Stone Walls - i saw Mick Taylor live twice last year and he was in a different league to the present Stones guitar sound. However, i got the chance to meet him after one of those shows and casually mentioned i felt the Stones had missed him and he didn't want to know. My immediate thought was it'll never happen in a million years.

He's a fat and lousy guitarplayer nowadays. Sorry to say so, but facts can't be denied.

Ronnie is one of a kind but is NOT a technically great player. And anyway, that's part of his idiosyncratic charm.

He has a tendency to be very unreliable with the Stones - and criticism is not undue for that reason.

But why compare?

I like all ronnie's solo stuff except the most recent one. And he's done plenty of them! but he can't sing anymore. Good fun live, but hard to take seriously any more as a quality guitar player.

Can Taylor paint?! What medium?!

s-asla if Taylor's a lousy guitar player these days where does that leave Keith and Ronnie?

The sorry thing is keith has nothing left and can write only ballads. You can
only go so far musically with open tunings and 3 chord material .

Question - Could Keith's guitar playing today enrich another artists material.

Answer - Probably Not except for maybe a rhythm here and there

Taylor left the stones and played on many artists records, made 2 solo records,
and has alot of work to be proud of, as a soloist and former bluesbreaker and
Stone.

Keith needed STEVE JORDAN to be the musical DIRECTOR with his solo work.and hired
Chuck Leavell do perform that duty with the stones.

Face It Keith needs jagger more than jagger needs KEITH.

he did a great job for the stones...then he quit...didn't care if the stones were about to go back on the road..
wonder why he never hooked up with a great new band? with all his contacts and for being a great guitar player..why didn't he ever make it big?

Any good blues player could have done what MT did with the Stones. He was a session player hired to do his job. Ronnie, as Keith has stated numerous time helped get them back to the route of the Stones sound which Keith always wanted dual guitar weaving.

I'm signing for who again? Andy Taylor? The guitarist from Duran Duran? Okay...smiling smiley

thats crap taylor and keith had guitar INTERPLAY, the whole weaving thing
was a way for keith and ronnie to hide behind each other's playing and anyone
you cared would have a hard time to figure out who played the bad note.

Taylor left the Stones. Keith recorded Black & Blue, Some Girls, EMotional Rescue, Tattoo You, Undercover, Dirty Work, Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge, Stripped, Bridges To Babylon, 4 tracks on Forty Licks and a Bigger Bang with The Rolling Stones, made 2 solo records and has alot of work to be proud of, as a soloist and Stone.

Come on OpenG. Taylor is a fantastic player, but stop telling us Keith never wrote or played anything worthwile since Taylor left.

Petition? No, thanks: pointless (allthough it would be cool).

I agree with you absolutely, Markdog!

And, people, don't forget Brian Jones as founder of The Stones and.... they never again sounded as great as KR & BJ did the guitars! Listen to Paris 66 soundboards and you all know who invited punk!!!

What a bunch of CRAP - you @#$%& who knock Taylor deserve a kick, you know
where! He isn't washed up, he's in better shape than Ronnie right now
"physically" and can still play circles around those two!!

JJ -you say I don't backup my statements about how much Taylor helped the Stones when he joined? bull-shit! you just don't want to believe it. I'm telling you
back in 1968/69 the Stones "NEEDED" this guy, Hell Fleetwood Mac sold more
records in 1968 than the Stones (in England) look it up!

So your "GODS" might not have stayed on their clouds if it wasn't for Taylor,
and do these guys give him any credit, hell no it's like he was never in the
band! why didn't Jagger mention something to the effect like: Here's a song
from the past that Taylor made famous with his soaring lead and Ronnie will
try his best to honor that recording...

Sounds to me like Ronnie hates having to try to duplicate Taylor's playing in
these "Classics" they pull out, he didn't even try, he's all over the place in
that Boot... oh well

i think all stones fans have to love taylor...god, he did a great job for them...mick and keith both have said it..but after 30 years he's not coming back full time...they did have him with the band at the rock and roll hall of fame...
but he left and for better or worse woodie is the rolling stone now.
taylor will alway be a rolling stone too. just play, lib, s.f. or exile!

G. has a point! Brian and Keith were the Stones' first dynamic duo and quite arguably their best! Ha! There we go! Now it's Brian vs Mick T vs Ronnie! Place your bets on Brian!smiling smiley

MLC every time you make this same statement about Taylor I respond and you then you are gone. Then you come back make the same statements over and over... Here I pasted this from the last time you said the Stones would have ended up like the Dave Clark 5.

MLC wrote:Leonard, JJ & DR,

Were any of you around back in the late 60's ?? The Stones could have
easily fallen off if they didn't pick the "right" person to replace Brian!!

Numerous bands back then dropped out of sight who were Hot.

Dave Clark Five, the Kinks dropped considerably, Hermans Hermits. Yardbirds

The acts that were making it in Concert, Hendrix, Cream, Fleetwood Mac,Stones
Led Zep, Deep Purple, J. Tull, Pink Floyd, etc.

had something in common - a Ass-kicking Lead Guitarist when you didn't have
stage props to entertain, there was a sort of a competative feel going,
who could put on the best show "musically"

J-J-Flash wrote:
Sure I remember, but I don't think the Stones would have ended up like the Dave Clark 5 or any of those bands you mentioned if not for Taylor. They had just recorded Let it Bleed and Beggars Banquet (without Taylor, just Keith playing most of the guitars). They could have called it a day after that and still be rock legends. I love Mick Taylor, probably my favorite guitarist but I don't think that he is the reason the Stones are what they are. I have read you post this same thing numerous times. Do you think if Clapton, Beck or any of the other rumored guitarists at time had joined the Stones they would have just ended up as another Herman Hermits, I don't.

I just don't get the point of a thread like this. No petition is going to get MT back onstage with The Stones. I would love to hear it, but it aint happinin'. It is just as likely that Brian Jones will rejoin!

This thread is right up there with "Hair Implants", I Am Drunk", "Replace All Of The Stones", etc.

Yawn

What if Taylor had played on Some Girls instead of Ron?!

I dont't think his style would have got the nerve of that time.

No time for noodeling.

So Ronnie is & was right decision - glad about that

A**holes is pretty strong language, we are just discussing.

Mick Taylors playing was great, he did add a lot to the Stones in that time although he was not who they were first looking for. Considering all the virtuosos coming out at that time in rock, he was a great choice. It gave the Stones some of what people were hearing in so many other bands of the day. Mick Jagger called trying to get Ronnie from the Faces first, and had they got him the songs would have been just as good or better(had to say it) cause Mick and Keith wrote them. I personally prefer the Ronnie/Keith playing.

MLC, you just proved my point, you are quick to call people names but are also quick to hide after you make your one sided arguments against the Stones without explaining yourself.

You must be right, Taylor is why the Stones are not remembered as another Dave Clark 5...

Give it up you hang downs...he'll NEVER play with the Stones again.

Ron Wood is the perfect foil for Keith, and he knows it. So why on earth would he want to bring back Taylor again?

Ron Wood is the perfect FOOL for Keith, and Keith knows it.

As long as Ronnie is there, there is no chance of Keith being upstaged.

Perfect arrangement don't you think?

Man, does this thread touch a nerve or ten. Hey? Whoo . . .

Calm down people. Remember the name of the board: IORR, not IGKMT (I'm Gonna Kill Mick Taylor). So everyone say it with me: It's only rock'n'roll, it's only rock'n'roll, it's only rock'n'roll.

Okay, deep breath . . . in . . . out . . . and reeeelax.

Damn!

Okay then.

Hell, I'm not signing any petition out of principle. This isn't American Idol, this is the Rolling Stones. Fans don't get to decide who plays in the band any more than we get to decide what songs go on the next album or what get played live at the next gig.

And if you don't like the fact that this isn't a democracy, I got two words for you: Clay Fukkin Aiken. Okay? That's the kinda shit that happens when you let the people decide these things: plain vanilla mediocrity.

Beware of what you vote for, you just might get it.
