The solo on Sway is also easy to play. Not easy to
play it as fluidly as MT, but easy because it's
straight blues with some hammer-ons and sweet string
bending by MT. Ronnie played CYHMK with distortion
and effect levels high enough that they masked minor
finger farts, and he did it justice. It would work the
same way with Sway.

Sway is tougher - CYHMK is pretty standard to play (Except for bringing out the feel of the notes...).

Yes, Sway is tougher, but only because of the finger speed.
If he uses the same guitar settings he used on CYHMK, and if
he keeps his fingers locked in the right key, he will pull it
off, Ronnie style. And I mean that in a good way.

I do think the song would plod live, but I'd like to hear it
just to prove myself right about the solo. :-)

Keith and Ronnie worked long and hard
on their guitar arrangement for Sway
during the Toronto rehearsals. We
couldn't make out much particulars
from outside but I would expect it
will be quite the treat.

Keith and then Ronnie were most always
the last to leave, practising late into the
night together. Little has been left to
happenstance.

I've only heard the boots of the shows
since the Phoenix. Ronnie and Keith have
always had a rough guitar sound, less than
technically perfect, but with a raw powerful
feel to it. I look forward to actually
hearing them live again in Toronto on the
26th, but don't expect we'll be
disappointed.

MT is another story altogether, and though
my favourite Stones guitarist, comparisons
are a moot point. We fight too much about
this around here, and it is now quite
negative, counter productive to just
loving the Stones music, and sound
from over the years.

There are some GREAT MT downloads on DoD,
the six and four disc Lone Star sets from
the eighties, and the Montreal and Santa
Cruz shows from the past few years,
to name but a few. If you want your
MT fix, go here instead and enjoy!
enjoy! enjoy!

On Ya Ya's Taylor is not killing keith and mick its the best dam guitar duo
interplay ever put the headsets on.One reason its the best its the song selection
due to MT being new they were limited in material and keith was able to play
half the solos on the record with Carol, Little Queenie,HTW,and Live With Me.
They shared solos on SFTD. Taylor provides his chunky rhythm on those songs which
is never really talked about we only focus on his soloing.

There are many examples of this great guitar interplay for the 72/73 tours as
well. The reason Taylor is blistering on those tours is Keith gave him more
freedom to play extended solos on GS,YCAGWYW,Dead Flowers, SFM,Angie,Heartbreaker,Dancing With Mr D, Midnight Rambler,BS,All Down The Line,
JJF etc. They had more of a selection of material to play with those tours.

what did ronnie add to his CYHMK solo - he copied taylor's triple stops and
played some octaves up and down the fretboard - the greatness of taylor's solo
was his fluidity and vibrato and that can,t be copied.

Why try Winter and do another arrangement to hide the solo . The whole
song is magical and IMO is the best stones song they ever did in the studio and
it was without keith.Winter is melodic wonderment to the ears.

IMO, the best song they ever did in the studio is Moonlight Mile (also without Keith).

Good Point - Taylor's looping climatic solo that ends moonlight is classic for
the ages.

Sounds like bullshit to me...

Is it bullshit that Winter and Moonlight Mile are among the stones' finest work?

No,even johns said in rip this joint that Winter was the best studio work the
stones done to that point.

Well, to say that Winter is the best studio work ...

It is an good ballad, with a sweet solo by Taylor, but nothing truly special. Sort of If you really want to be my friend type of song.

play with fire, she smiled sweetly, no expectations, silver, horses, let it loose and angie are all way more interesting

I don't really care if they ever will play it live: I usually use the slow numbers to go to the toilet

<play with fire, she smiled sweetly, no expectations, silver, horses, let it loose and angie are all way more interesting>

The latter four I can live with, but She Smiled Sweetly is not on my top 200 list of good stones-songs.

Did you read the rolling stone interview with the stones this month - Ron Wood
says he had all this pressure to learn 140 new songs and learn Brian Jones and
Mick Taylor guitar lines when he joined the band. From Day 1 Woody had this idea
he had to copy the guitar lines from the former two guitarists rather them play
and IMPROVISE.

It was kind of like Jon Nagy Learn to Draw, if anyone remembers that art learning class... was that by mail or TV ?

Just Googled it, and any old-time stones fan will remember Jon Nagy Learn to Draw and it comes up alot on Google.com

So I think it's about the same as Ronnie Wood learns to play Mick Taylor... kinda like during the same time period you had Jon Nagy Learn To Draw... and I'm sure it affected Ronnie Wood the same way...
