Elton’s the real deal - an extremely talented musician and performer.

Had the good fortune to catch the last show of his Farewell Tour, yesterday evening in Stockholm. He and the band were great. Sad to see him go though.

Davey and Nigel still with him? They were when I saw him in 2013.

Does anyone know if Bernie Taupin was there? I haven’t seen any mention of it.

Yes. And Ray Cooper too.

All 3 of them were with Elton when I saw him at the Hammersmith Odeon in 1974!

Not for tours I would think, but for one-off performances here and there, quite possibly !

Watching this now. All very good performances so far. Billy Porter just did a really great job with The Bitch Is Back.

Disappointed they couldn't get Low Cut Connie for this. Elton has publicly called him out and they'd have been a great addition.

Lol, most of my Searches on IORR fail miserably, which was again the case Apr 13 when I was looking for an OT: Elton thread. I posted this on '"Listening to this minute?" instead. Anyway, don't miss this performance.

Elton John & Bernie Taupin were awarded this year's Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. A tribute concert was held at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on March 20. It aired on PBS this past Monday night, April 8, 2024.

Of the tribute performances my favorite was Bennie and the Jets performed by a guy who I didn't even who he was.

Absolutely agree with the Metallica comments. Awesome performance. You could tell Elton and Bernie were impressed by it, too.

Brandi Carlile was great, too, with Madman Across The Water and Skyline Pigeon. According to Pete Townshend, Elton recorded a new album with her:

Anyway, the show made me wish the forever or rather "Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour" was still going!

Metallica sure do great cover tunes. My favourite Metallica tune is their cover of Whiskey In The Jar. Great Youtube vid of them doing it live at Slane Castle a few years back.

Just a weigh in. If you can, check the Gershwin show on PBS, utoob or grab a torrent. Hadn't listened to Elton in ages but this award show was so damn good. I even enjoyed Elton singing Your Song, a tune I have loathed for years.

I believe it was after hearing her debut album... or maybe it was The Story, I forget... Elton sought Brandi Carlile out, brought her to his house, mentored her, and is a huge fan of hers. He was fascinated by her songwriting and performing, and it sounds like saw in her a lot he identified with, from his own start in the industry decades ago. So them doing an album together would not be a surprise at all.
