The subject has come up recently as ronaldo crowned himself the best, and some of the replies ive seen has sparked some debate. im astonished by his claim so

heres my view.

there is no argument to suggest that ronaldo is anywhere near the best, the fact he scores more than anyone else is purely down to his teammates who create hundreds of chances for him over the years. yet ronaldos conversion rate is low, this season its 16% compared to harry kanes 22%. last year it was 12% compared to jamie vardys 32%

last night i watched a youtube video of maradona in 1986 and his contribution to the success in the world cup that year. the ball control, dribbling at speed, weaving in and out of opponents, passing to unmarked teammates while surrounded by 3 or 4 defenders, his crosses, assists, goals were astonishing and ive never seen any football player come close, even messi, yes messis good, but he hasnt delivered in a world cup anywhere near the level maradona has.

as for ronaldo, hes a big headed, deluded, greedy, selfish, childish boy who needs to grow up and gain a bit of humility. personally i blame the media for putting him on his pedestal, when they could have critisised him the way they do to others for misplaced passes, poor crosses and his lack of ability to dribble at speed, play killer passes to teammates and for the odd decent cross someone could score from. they ignore these points.

how can anyone say ronaldos better than maradona.

In all seriousness, I know next to nothing about football (soccer), so I can't comment. Everything I've read and seen about Ronaldo...he seems like a textbook narcissist.

His face and physique are so perfectly sculpted that he doesn't look real. No doubt he works insanely hard to look and play at the level he does and I don't begrudge him success, but something about him doesn't sit right.

In the American version of football, I would go with the late Johnny Unitas when he was the quarterback for the then Baltimore Colts. In his prime, I don't think there was a better quarterback. He and the Colts were Sunday religion in Baltimore. Unitas ended up paying the price in his later years for all of the physical beatings, for want of a better word, he took on the field.

In what the rest of the world calls football, I would go with Pele. Watched him on the telly a few times and read about him in the papers/sports magazines. He was just great, IMHO.
