Your Number One Live Performances of Songs on Stones Tours

Here's some of mine:

BROWN SUGAR: Opening the Sticky Fingers Tour with Mick Taylor, Kansas City Auditorium 1971 or '72...

MIDNITE RAMBLER: Sticky Fingers was GREAT, but I'm gonna give this to Forty Licks show at Chicago United Center, 2003.

JUMPIN' JACK FLASH: Chicago Soldier Field, A Bigger Bang Tour, 2005

SATISFACTION: Chicago Soldier Field, A Bigger Bang Tour, 2005

CAN'T YOU HEAR ME KNOCKIN': Forty Licks, United Center 2003.

LIKE A ROLLING STONE: Bridges To Babylon Tour, United Center, b-stage.

SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL: Forty Licks, United Center, 2003

GIMME SHELTER: Directly following SFTD above... the greatest 1-2 song sequence of any Stones show I've ever seen. Lisa just knocked this out of the park.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT: So many great renditions but my strongest memory is from the first I ever heard it... Sticky Fingers Tour, St. Louis, MO 1971 or 2.

NOT FADE AWAY: Opening of VooDoo Lounge Tour, Chicago Soldier Field, 1994 ?

YOU GOT ME ROCKIN': VooDoo Lounge, Chicago Soldier Field, 1994 ?

BITCH: A Bigger Bang, Chicago Soldier Field, 2005

NIGHT TIME: A Bigger Bang with Buddy Guy, Milwaukee, 2005. Not a Stones song, but what a performance!

These are just some brilliantly delivered, unforgettable live performances.

"Street fighting man" was f'n awesome on the Licks tour.
Hope it comes back soon.

An absolute friggin gem.

And not that I saw it live but "Saint of me" on the B2B and NS tours sounds and looks (on dvd) more inspired than I think I've ever seem them.
Another brilliant song.

Hope that comes back soon too!

Have you ever lent somebody $20 and never seen them again? It was probably worth it.

I just can't imagine what CYHMK at the Aragon was like... it's such a big sound song... must have completely mesmerized the room.

CYHMK was just incredible that whole tour... they just kept nailin' it. Anyone who says Ronnie wasn't playin' during Forty Licks sure never saw that song live.

You can't have "a few" number ones.

No... "Tour of the Americas" was a few years later in 1975.

I don't think the 1972 Tour even had a name. Toru.com calls it the "North American Tour" they played Kansas City Jun 22, '72 and St. Louis Jul 9th. Just at the heighth of the Mick Taylor days. Incredible shows.

Funny that I just don't remember a single song from Exile at those gigs, but there could have been as it was officially released that May. Since they opened with Brown Sugar I've always called it the Sticky Fingers Tour smiling smiley

"Exile" songs played every show on the 72 tour - Rocks off, Rip this joint, tumbling dice, sweet virginia, happy, all down the line

occasionally played - Loving cup, Torn and frayed, Sweet black angel, ventilator blues

On the opening night of the tour in Vancouver, 9 of the 18 songs were from the new album (all of the above except Sweet Black Angel)

they had more live material to play with exile out and they could not
play many pretaylor songs live due to klein. I guess any song that taylor played
live IMO was as good as or better then post taylor live.

The difference IMO is that the band had to "keep up" with Taylor... Keith adding rhythm guitar punctuation on top of Taylors lines...

Watch Jagger keeping up with Taylor, he gets nearly breathless alot.

With Ronnie I think they play much more of an integrated sound.

It's 2 kinds of sounds, can't say which I prefer.

Sorry smiling smiley I think my brain stopped to function... I meant STP (Stones Touring Party). The "Sticky Fingers Tour" in 1971 didn't get to USA - that was my point anyway...

That was a fantastic tour... I really think it was THE benchmark American tour of the Stones in the Taylor days...

I saw this twice, and only 3 songs survive vividly in memory:

BROWN SUGAR... they just blew the whole auditorium up in about a minute, opening with this song.

MIDNITE RAMBLER... and that S&M routine Mick did "spankin" the stage with this goofy wide sequined belt... Imagine that this arrangement stuck in your mind, but it was as good or better on the Forty Licks Tour... Ronnie & Keith just stomped this song on 40 Licks, so that's still my number one version.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT... This song just came out of left field and completely fit and completely created a different vibe with the same first minute... I've always looked for this since.

Tenth Row Center, had to camp out to get them.

Nothing else is particularly memorable although they played one bedrock classic after the other....
