I remember well, standing at the parking lot in sacramento (1999) and a woman was passing by, complaining about the stones, not playing satisfaction.

I said "not playing satisfaction was the highlight of the show" ;-)

I liked it a lot in 1994/95, when it was played as song number 8 or so, right in
the middle.

I didn´t like it played as an opener in 1997/08 first, but got used to it.

I like it as the last song of the main set.

I like JJF as last song of the encore more.

"Satisfaction" was not played for the entire '99 U.S. 'No Security Tour'.

Also, not performed at some early '81 tour concerts and,as mentioned earlier, performed very rarely in the '70's. A handful of other times they didn't perform it as well.

Assuming that they do tour in 2018 then going "warhorse lite" would be desirable. Play a three-minute Satisfaction, a four-minute Brown Sugar, etc.

No chance whatsoever of that. They're coming home to the UK next year, without a visit in 5 years. Warhorses it will be. Most attendees are 1 gig a tour or even 1 gig a lifetime and that means warhorses. I predict 2 changes a night as per the whole No Filter Tour after Munich. I'll still go to multiple shows.

according to stats, jj flash is the most played song ever by the stones and surprisingly you got me rocking is near the top, and probably would be the top song based on percentage of gigs possible.

not sure where satisfaction would be in the league based on percentages but it has missed more gigs than songs like tumbling dice and jj flash.

I have never been to a bad Stones concert when JJF was the opener. The final song, so matter what it is doesn't get the justice it deserves as it's part of the whirling windup. (The exception being Street Fighting Man in the late 60s, early 70s).

Funny you'd say that -
"Miss You" has been my 'official' toilet & extra beer (yep; in that order) break on this NO FILTER tour.
Worked like a charm! smoking smiley

Hehe yes, looks like Keith has been using the beginning of Miss You as a chance to adjust himself, can't really blame him.

How many years has he had to play songs like MY and SFTD , his body language tells me he is tired with some of these Warhorses. Who knows , he may even be fed up with SMU and Satisfaction.

I would dump "Sympathy for the Devil" at this point. It's steadily getting worse since at least 2005 / 2006 and there is nowhere new to put it in the set list. The pre-recorded loops are getting stale and a crowd sing-along doesn't suit the song well.

I can see keeping "Satisfaction" ..... maybe an option as the opener again. Enough time has passed since 1998. Only used as an opener at one or two shows since then.

I would also keep the blues in there if they don't rely on the same 3 songs and if they were kept at the cost of "Miss You" and "Sympathy" instead of at the cost of more rare songs. That's if the set lists are long enough.

Doesn't seem too likely though ..... unless they go back to clubs and theatres.

Re: They didn't play Satisfaction

I think SFTD was way better this time around, compared to the most recent tours (2005-2015).

The main reason is Mick's singing (He sounds like he means it now, instead of merely speaking through the song).

They have also added some guitar bits from the second verse and on that worked very nicely, imo.

It was more funky and energetic on this tour, and it worked well as an opener.

TD and IORR, however, sounded tired and unspired on both the shows I attended.

GS was magical on both nights. A natural encore.

They played it at the Oct 11 LA gig. They played SFM at the Oct 9 gig.
They didn't play it at Anaheim in 1978 but at Oakland a day or so later.
Always wondered why they didn't play it an Anaheim.
BTW, I love the JFK '78 version.

I know Moonlight Mile was also played in San Diego and Hate to See You Go in Paris 2, Worried About You in Zurich 2014. Didint checked the rest of the list, but we see your point.

These are from the shows he attended, I presume...

..but here Ladies and Gentlemen is the Curve ball with a capital C: I attended along with 1795 other lucky souls (depending on how you see it obviously) the ONLY show since 1967 where they skipped BOTH Flash and Satisfaction: Cirkus, Stockholm 2003. Sympathy as the encore. Now THAT was a weird show omitting BOTH Cremes de la Riffmaster!!

The point should be how many times in the last 40 or so years has it been given a proper place?

I liked it a lot in 1994/95, when it was played as song number 8 or so, right in
the middle.

I didn´t like it played as an opener in 1997/08 first, but got used to it.

I like it as the last song of the main set.

I like JJF as last song of the encore more.

1997/98 is the only version I like except for the studio version. It had a nice bluesy vibe on the BTB-tour, something which never was replicated on later tours.

I think SFTD was way better this time around, compared to the most recent tours (2005-2015).

The main reason is Mick's singing (He sounds like he means it now, instead of merely speaking through the song).

They have also added some guitar bits from the second verse and on that worked very nicely, imo.

Yep it was a nice opener, I think Mick's improved singing has something to do with it being the first song. The same thing happens with Jumping Jack Flash, when it's the opener it's always better nowadays.

What about the Les Paul VL-version? I thought that was pretty fresh, pretty early in the set.

I liked the B2B-version, too thumbs up

I didn't get Satisfaction at 3 shows:

March 15, 1999 - First Union Center, Philadelphia
March 16, 1999 - First Union Center, Philadelphia
September 22, 2002 - Tower Theater, Upper Darby

I also had a show without Tumbling Dice: September 17, 2005, Albany

How many people been to a concert where they didn't play Satisfaction? Well I did as it was in 1965 before it was written. At Desert Trip last year, so many people saying they went to Stones concerts 40 years ago, didn't meet anyone who said 50 years+!

Hmmmm...That would be none. I saw them in 1978 and it was one where they did do it. Don't think they always did it that tour. After that every tour had it...

Which 1978 show was that?

Thanks for the Stuttgart 1999 hint. I was there and they indeed did NOT play Satisfaction. Hence, I missed it once ;-)

I think Keith should play the opening riff to Satisfaction three times in a row and then just move on to another song instead of using up 10 minutes of show time playing ( or not playing ) the rest of it. winking smiley

I also think Miss You should officially be Keith's break so he can re energize himself for the rest of the show, at which point i can make my toilet brake without missing any of keith. smoking smiley

To get Keith off stage I think they'd likely need to stalk him with nets or dart him grinning smiley

Haha, very true, although i did see Keith take a little sit down next to Charlie for a couple of minutes during SMU in Paris 3. I think it's come to a time where Keith deserves a little rest, Ronnie and Charlie too perhaps.
What about a special guest comes to do a slot with the rest of the band while the boys take a toilet brake and a little rest. It would be a show of two halves then, make for a longer show, plus we would get the Stones at full throttle after the much needed rest. Good idea for the London shows.
