I like when you distinguish between "technically" and "philosophically" for posing those questions regarding the earliest proto-Stones line-ups.
"Technically:" What are the names on the first Decca contract? The first management deal with Eric Easton? For my own part, I'll take "philosphically:" Did the Stones become the Stones when they started having hit records? When they started having hit records with original songs?
In this last sense, Jagger and Richards are indisputably the founders of the Rolling Stones: When "The Last Time" and "Satisfaction" and later, "Jumpin' Jack Flash" seared themselves into the brains of millions is when the Stones truly came to be in any meaningful sense...those boys built the brand. That's why they could fire Brian.
Back to the topic at hand:
Very shrewd for Jagger and the band to handle the bass question as they did in 1994. Musically, they gave the hiring decision to Charlie, which demonstrated appropriate respect and integrity. Meanwhile, knowing that no one would take a new "fifth Stone" seriously at that late date, they sidestepped the issue entirely. They made Daryl a hired hand--a hired hand without the album cover and photo shoot duties that Woody had had for twenty years, but also without the occasional songwriting credits.
I've been trailing the Stones so friggin' long that I should be a member...I've out lasted the original bass player... two guitarists and been with 'em longer than Woody. Let me in the band you bastards....!!!!

He has played the bass on most of the stones's studio work since bill left and has toured with them ever since (that means not exactly a couple of gigs once in a while).
But at the moment it looks like the club was closed circa 1963. It is almost sad to notice how Ronnie is neglected at the moment. He is treated not better than a side musician in A Bigger Bang - and look at the comments of Keith in a new Rolling Stone interview about his first reactions of Charlie's cancer. "Now it is just two of us."
The point: Ronnie might be an official member in moneywise and marketwise, but I think this new record tells the truth quite harshly that he has never belonged to the REAL inner circle of the Stones. A "New boy" will always remain a new boy, a hired gun - needed sometimes yes, sometimes not.

yeah, thats why their photos are both on the cover of the new album..
Deep down in my heart Daryl's been a full member ever since Billy quit. It was so darn low that we were only to watch glimpses of Mr Jones from the rehearsal video at the press conference in NYC. Come on Keith and Mick, give Daryl the cred he deserves and stop treating him like sth the cat dragged in.
There is a nice photo in IORR #25 where Darryl is included in the final bow together with the other 4 at the last VL show in Rotterdam 95, the completion of his first tour with the band. But will he ever be an official member of the band? No.
A full member is someone you would never replace. Someone who does not dress in black to be invisible and out of the cameras. The FOUR has been in the RS for 30-40 years and you have to earn the RS membership. May be in 30 years time Darryl will become a full member.
It was quite a nice touch the way they did it. As usual the entire band took their bows and then the side musicians left the stage for the four Stones to do the final bow - as they were leaving, Keith signalled to Darryl to join Mick, Charlie, Ronnie and himself - whether it was a thank you for bailing them out when Bill quit or it was his way of saying "you're one of us now" you can interpret for yourself. At the time I saw it as the latter - now I guess it seems like it was the former.
