It has nothing to do with integrity...it has to do with teaming up to draw the biggest audience possible.Quote

Ugh, wow. Not a terrible bill at all, but I've never been a big fan of this way of touring. The sort of Foreigner/Styx/Poison/Journey/REO Speedwagon/Def Leppard summer amphitheater run. I like some of those bands but it just always seems so desperate. Seems the 70s acts try to not to 3 bands but do a double bill sort of thing. Aerosmith/Slash, Bad Company/Joe Walsh which are maybe just as desperate but IMO have a bit more integrity. Lumping Alice in with them... I don't know, I guess he fits but it seems sad. Deep Purple too, although again in this incarnation its probably what has to happen.
Just thinking out loud. I had a similar feeling when Alice OPENED for Motley Crue and I was like "really? I love Maiden but Alice is now only an opening act?" Hoping this is a money making thing he does before he hopefully gets the original band back together for a tour like he's been hinting at.

Fans win out when they put a quality package together. I plan on going to see this show.

Personally I'd rather see Alice solo or headlining, so I get some deeper cuts.
Yeah, Ian sounds pretty awful, but I've never seen DP...I'd go just to see Ian, Paicey and Roger once, although Steve Morse and Don Airey are quite good and this lineup has put out some quality albums.Quote

Alice's voice is still in great shape but poor old Ian Gillan sings through his nose these days.....a great set of pipes in his heyday though....
I think it's just down to not wanting to give up arena crowds, and the only way to fill up U.S. sheds is to draw from several different fanbases at once.Quote

True, although not if you've seen any of them. Cause they'll play their condensed Greatest Hits sets. Personally I'd rather see Alice solo or headlining, so I get some deeper cuts. Would feel the same about Deep Purple as well, but as I mentioned in their current incarnation I probably wouldn't go. I know it doesn't have to do with integrity, but I'd personally rather see these guys that can't fill arenas do smaller casino shows than package tours. The package tour thing has been very much what the 80s bands do.

Me, too - have no real interest in Deep Purple or Edgar.
Was kind of hoping Alice would be doing an "original band" tour this year (thought I heard they were reuniting for an album or something, unless I imagined it!)...guess that will happen later on, if it's still in the works.

This news is a bit underwhelming.
I've never seen Alice Cooper and might have liked to, but never made the attempt. Hasn't he been been playing small theaters, clubs, and places like the House of Blues lately? I suppose I missed my chance for that, and I have zero interest in "Deep Purple" without Blackmore. And Edgar Winter...good guy with a couple of great early '70's tunes, but paying to see him in an ampitheater? Might be OK in a small club, but...........
Does seem sort of a desperate attempt to bring people in...count me out.
Alice always has good things to say about the Stones.Quote

Alice Cooper is influenced by The Stones, they say.

On a recent Chris Jericho (the wrestler and lead singer of Fozzy) podcast, Alice said he refuses to retire before Jagger, so he's going to keep going as long as Mick goes. It was pretty great.
Probably, although if Ritchie and Jon Lord had rejoined the band 8-10 years ago, I bet they could have done a successful MKII reunion tour in amphitheaters.Quote

people keep saying "thats what the current deep purple has to do". trust me. even if it was the entire MKII lineup the band would be playing venues that hold less than 5,000 people here in the states.

Don't be so sure about that. Look at Iron Maiden - still selling out arenas across America!
Had the MKII lineup stayed together, they could have and probably would have recorded and released some vintage classic Deep Purple tunes and kept a huge fan base.
But as it is now, many people see the current DP lineup as being close to a tribute band.

Maiden is WAY bigger than Deep Purple...they sell out soccer stadiums in Europe and South America, and sell out MSG every time they play the U.S. They also still have their classic '80s lineup intact (plus Janick Gers).
When Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith left, coupled with the downturn in metal popularity in the '90s, they were reduced to playing theaters in the States.
Wow.Quote

maiden is on the same level now as def leppard and def leppard can not sell out msg now without other bands. Please post proof that maiden recently sold out msg with no other big named bands playing the show with them
