Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) has just published his autobiography "Lonely Boy". A great book about Steve's childhood in utter poverty and desperation in West London, music and guitar playing being his way out of the darkness, the rise and fall of the Sex Pistols, his move to Los Angeles, his solo records, the Sex Pistols reunion tours and his job as a radio DJ in Los Angeles. A brutally honest book, including detailed accounts of his thievery (for those who don't know, the Sex Pistols had top-of-the-line equipment even before they got started, because Steve had stolen it from concert venues and shops all over London) and his alcohol, drug and sex addictions. A must-read for anyone with even the slightest interest in the Sex Pistols or the London music scene of the 1970s.

It's a number one best seller on Amazon among heavy metal musician biographies, which as far as I know might be tantamount to being number one among Under Assistant West Coast Promo Men, but hey, number one is number one.

I'm not reading any musical memoirs at the moment, as I'm reading a biography of Warren Buffet.

Iggy Pop/Jeff Gold, Total Chaos. Excellent book, the whole long strange trip from Iggy's perspective, with exhaustive documentation and pics.

Read Born to Run a while back, even more excellent.

I am reading the Sam Philips' bio too; I go slowly because there is a LOT to take in. Every page is loaded with info, details, names, connections all of it counting as elements which helped create Rock and Roll. Sam Philips' enthousiasm and madness is so palpable that it is infectious. That's why we love rock and roll; it helps us get the crazy out of ourselves.

I was somewhat surprised at how much he emphasized Howlin Wolf over the members of the "million dollar quartet". At least so far, I'm barely halfway through...

Great, great book but ultimately depressing (at least to me). They were total idiots who shot their career in the foot every chance they got. That said, some of Westerberg's antics did make me laugh out loud. Funny Keith anecdote in there as well. Highly recommended.

"Why I Left Home" by Buddy Guy. Lots of great anecdotes and info about the old blues greats and an inspiring account of how Buddy clawed his way to his current position as a giant.

Currently reading "The Ray Connolly Beatles Archive".

The gist of this book is that the author, Ray Connolly, was a journalist who knew all of The Beatles personally. He knew John and Paul very well. This is a collection of stories and articles he has published over the last half century with current reflection and updated thoughts on these matters.

He was very well connected including John confiding in him that he had left The Beatles before it was public and was supposed to interview John the day after he was killed. The Beatles sometimes contacted him, requesting to be interviewed about a particular matter.

I've read a lot of books on the Fab Four, but Connolly brings an incredible up close perspective to their personalities (both the good as well as the bad) that I haven't seen elsewhere.

Highly recommended.

I read the Aerosmith book, which was surprisingly good.
I want to read the Paul Stanley book. I heard it is good.
It is interesting how often artists you are not really into can give you a killer read. On the other hand Nicky Hopkins, Bobby Keys provided some dreafully boring reading, LOL
The Cheetah Chrome book was really good.

Dont know who I was listening to about the P Stanley book. What a miserable guy.
