I always had a fondness for JFK 1978.
I know most of you don't so... just rest.

The '72 / '73 versions of All Down the Line are the best followed by '78 but Atlantic City '06 (performed not long after the official 'Shine a Light' film version) deserves very honorable mention.

Honorable mention also goes to Frankfurt '76 and Boston '03 versions of All Down the line.

La Friday 1975, fantastic sleazy version. Best Charlie Watts ever.

I think the Philly version of ADTL from the 72 tour rocks like nothing else.

I like the versions of ADTL from the very underrated 2007 European-tour.
The version from Nijmegen 2007 is fantastic!

It was too polished and perfect in 1995, same in 1972-1973.

Frankfurt 1976 is indeed great!

I think that sums it up.

As other folks have said...It's hard to find a bad ADTL.

Like anything else from Exile, it's hard to beat the original cut because the whole album has an energy that's usually only achieved in a live performance.

[Which FWIW is a major part of what makes that album so great for me ]

When there was a real Keith rythm playing stuff : energy, strength, regularity, something so lacking today in many songs...
With Ronnie concentrated and applied, hands on the handle of his guitar ... and not in the air...

Why do you cook up all this nonsense? Is this some kind of campaign or a vendetta, or something, LOL!

Well, what you're saying, and the song you chose to make your point, is so off that it's beyond ridiculous.

This is from last year. If you're right, they must have faded fast...

True, much of what powerage78 has to say about Keith's and Ronnie's playing is the same kind of nonsense which usually comes from journalists like Markus Larsson...

Still to this day Keith and Ronnie are driving the songs forward with their great rhythm playing, it's just Keith who sometimes has a hard time playing ''solid'' solos.

They pretty much nailed it on the 72 tour and again on the 78 tour. The 78 Ft Worth show is a standout example. When Keith wanted to really drive the rhythm, the song soared. Alas, he is unable to get that level these days, but the song still translates well on stage.

If you read me with attention you will easily understand I speak generaly and not especially About ADTL.
IMO Ronnie and Keith don't drive the rhythm as they did...

That 72 version from NYC is insane. Taylor is on fire.

Few performances are played with the authority of this band (MSG '72).

OMG this version is INSANE. Taylor is fantastic, and Keith is pumping up a storm, Jagger's wailing is very good, and you have the horns thrown in for the cream on top.

I listened to a good chunk of each link and this is by far the best.

A lot of '72 bootleg recordings are really poor quality, but this one is a full stereo soundboard (I think). There is also an intangible, there is still that delicious quasi low-fi muddiness, and it just feels like you can sense the heat and sweat of the summer of 1972 steaming through the recording.

Oh my, have never dug this song in any way, shape or form. When I copied Exile over to cassette tape and later CD, it never made the transfer, along with TOTR, RTJ, and SS. I considered them inferior to all else on the album. Just a matter of like and taste, I guess.

2006??? hahahahahaha

Listen again to the SAL version and tell me why it's bad.

Mick's singing.

1995's makes 2006's sound silly. And Keith is in top form.

If you watched a video of All Down The Line from SAL the reason for the ''silly singing'' is the pitch which is messed up on all SAL dvd/blurays. Listen to the soundtrack cd of SAL with the right pitch and it's sounds less silly.

The "unofficial" Brussels version is my favorite. The band is a well oiled machine on this one. The energy builds throughout the song into a dizzying frenzy that lasts for the last minute or so. The horn section is the icing on the cake.

Good call! And that was corrected in Crossfire Hurricane, where it sounds excellent, imo.

Really? It's a trainwreck, and eventually it falls apart, too confused smiley

Is it the energy you like (I admit that's great on this one), or are you thinking of another Brussels version?

There are several disturbing mistakes on the Brussels-version. It's the Stones, I get that, but when they're almost playing different songs, it's too much for me smiling smiley
