I really don't see why anyone would want to support these Olympics considering...
/quote]
Because it's not the athlete's fault that it's like this. They have been working and dreaming of the Olympics for years and, when they finally realize their dream, the athletes get... Rio. F'ing Rio. Not their fault. so support them more! My neighbour is a coach, down there now, and I wish him and his teams well. And everyone else. Go Athletes!
Great words TorontoGirl. All Im hearing about how awful it is, but f*ck that. Go athletes from Togo and Fiji.

No, did not have the money to go.
Spend travelling in Brazil in 2001 6 weeks and 2003 6 weeks, all over the country. Its an amazing country, with lovely people, beautiful women, good food and great drinks. Its my favourite country in the world.

Ya'll are too fancy for me, I just take my coffee in a regular cup with a little half and half and sugar...actually, some skim milk and creamer mixed together and the sugar is a shake of splenda...add some cinnamon, and a dash of vanilla and chocolate powder...oh, and don't forget a pinch of nutmeg! Other than that, I just like plain old coffee.

Sweden's first medal today. "Silver-Emma" did it again. Silver in women's road race (cycling) once again. As in Peking, 2008. Tenths of a second behind Anna van der Breggen, The Netherlands.
Congratulations dear Emma! Tonight I will watch Sarah Sjöström take gold in women's 100 meter butterfly (swimming). Go Sarah!

Love it, always have. In this facile and transitory Internet-driven world, the Olympics is one of the few big-scale international events that still feels like a collective experience to me. I'm a sucker for all those sappy stories: the orphaned Romanian gymnast who was shipped off to some austere gymnastics facility 50 miles from her home when she was 5, the swimmer who survived tragedy and carries the memory
of his dead mother with him to the medal podium, the bad boy skier who hates fame but loves the purity of the ride.... I could go on and on. I live the human drama of it all: the teen who sacrificed everything to train and then fell off the balance beam, or the runner who tripped during the relay...
And it doesn't matter where they're from, I root for the individual stories.
Go ahead, call me a sap!
