It sounds a little silly to say " This IS Boogie, and this is not". There is no set parameter for something that makes one boogie, or not. "Boogie on", or "Let's boogie" can have so many different meanings in various settings.

Agree, however, the question was specifically about the 'beats that goes "du-dudu-dudu" forever', I call that the Status Quo shuffle. Lots of songs mentioned so far are great, but do not meet this criterium.

That Shuffle IS the boogie smiling smiley

Not certain of this, but tentatively I wonder if my prime example of the Stones playing in a boogie-like way, would be how they did Chuck Berry's "Bye, Bye Johnny".

If valid, then in the next instance I am also uncertain if that is mostly due to the song as such or to the way of the Stones playing it.

Edit. A letter had fallen out.

Off Topic mister Dandelion Powderman...we are talking about Boogie Rock.
... and now you say what Brian plays on Bye Bye Johnny is classic BOOGIE...

That's not boogie. That is rhythm guitar playing. Just playing the chords in a rhytmic way. Well done and almost boogie...
Boogie is simpler... one ore two chords at the most, played with rhytmic feeling to the core.
Boogie can get you in a trance... Boogie Rock not so much.
thumbs up

Edit: My favourite Boogie ROCK song: [youtu.be]

Brian could bogie with the best of them. His playing on "19th Nervous Breadown" or "Diddley Daddy" ( which are pretty much the same)

You can hear Taylor play a Texas boogie riff during the L&G performance of Bitch. For a roadhouse boogie I love this stuff:

A few other good boogie-songs:

Georgia Satellites - Keep Your Hands To Yourself
Status Quo - Again And Again
The Rolling Stones - Respectable
Kiss - Nothing To Lose
Dan Baird - Julie And Lucky
Chuck Berry - Nadine

Respectable is NOT a boogie song. It's more punk than anything

Not musically, which is what we're talking about here.

Clue: the song starts with a classic boogie guitar in A.

Re: OT: Boogie rock

OK, I'm back from vacation - let's boogie!

For the guys who are saying «this isn't boogie, this is rock'n'roll», remember that boogie rock is a certain way of playing rock'n'roll. It's how the guitars are playing rock'n'roll, rhythmically. Listen to the rhythm guitars in this video clip. They are all playing the boogie. All the tracks are rock'n'roll, whether they are from the 50s, 60s, 70s or 80s. Boogie is a rhythm, and boogie is certainly a set way of playing that rhythm on guitar.

Enjoy!

Boogie is a certain way of playing, just like the guitars in Respectable. Shake Your Hips is classic blues, not boogie.

Examples of the Stones playing boogie:

Star Star
Little Queenie (live)
Respectable
Rip This Joint
Midnight Rambler
Had It With You
It's Only Rock and roll (live)
Short And Curlies

And many more...

For the textbook check out Status Quo (including their Berry covers).

PS: Boogie Woogie is NOT the same as boogie rock..

Respectable isn't boogie. It's more punk.
Rip This joint is too fast for boogie.
Had It With You is more punk too.

Boogie is a tempo. The word comes from boogie woogie, a rolling barrel house piano style.

So Status Quo doesn't play boogie rock? Listen to the Again And Again and the Respectable snippets after eachother. It's the attitude that is related to punk in Respectable, the music is purely based on heavy boogie rock.

Surely, you can play fast boogie rock and you can play slower boogie rock.

Punk is usually played with root chords, and not so often with the blues-based boogie pattern.

Respectable is not boogie in a million years Dandy. And yes, of course Status Quo is based on boogie. And fast boogie is called rock'n'roll.

Yes. 100 per cent. As is John Lee Hooker. As I said, it is a certain rolling style. If it is played 'too darn fast' it is no longer boogie but rock'n'roll.

Fast boogie rock is just one way of playing rock'n'roll, not rock'n'roll.

It wasn't boogie woogie we were discussing here, but boogie rock, though. Respectable, obviously has rhythm guitars that play boogie - that's the whole rhythmical framework of the song!

The AC/DC track the RipThisBone posted earlier in the thread is heavy boogie rock as well, even though many of his selections are more blues than boogie rock.

Status Quo is more known as a boogie rock band than that of rock'n'roll. And there is a reason for that.

There are so many ways of playing rock'n'roll, and the Stones knew that pretty early on. That's why they are more diverse and versatile-sounding than Status Quo, who mainly stuck to their boogie rock.

As mentioned before, Respectable opens with a straight boogie guitar in A.
