Hi Virgil I was just listening to Alvin Lee & Co the other day. Still have the old vinyl Double Live. The one that starts with "One of these days". I always like "You Give Me Loving"". That's a cool riff. Thing that's interesting, as far as guitar playing history goes: in his heyday Alvin Lee was criticized by his peers for being all speed and flash and not much substance. In those days that actually applied. Blackmore,Iommi, Mick Box, Pagey all had more melody and structure in their solos. But by Today's standards Alvin is already way ahead of the people of the now. Isn't that weird? That doesn't say much good about today's music' standards.

When I think of lead guitar "greatest solo's", it just has to be Eric Clapton on "Let It Rain" off the Derek and Dominoe's Live album, he never did, and nobody ever did a guitar solo quite that awesome, IMO... 2nd choice would be several blasts from Stevie Ray...

On Bass, it hasta go to Flea... check him out on "Coffee Shop" or "Around the World", but heck it could be a dozen other songs, no other bassist is really in the running...

Drums, I'm gonna go with ... John Bonham on Moby Dick or Rock n Roll, OR Billy Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead on The Other One

Andy Latimer has done a loads of nice guitar-solos. On of'em is the Snow Goose-suit at A Live Record from '77 or '78.

Mr. Davies in the Kinks play fun solos;
as Peter Townsend.
