the 1971 Rolling Stone interview with Robert Greenfield is the best.

The 1971 radio interview where we hear an unreleased 1971 version of MR in the background. I think it was a swedish radio interview.

So long as you take much of it with the proverbial pinch of salt...they're always an entertaining watch or read smiling smiley

The one where he threatened to stab Rod Stewart wasn't bad.

I haven't read that one in a while, but isn't he more vulnerable and more generous about Brian at that point?

its a really good interview. very honest, putting the Stones in perspective with the context of musical styles they had to prevail against, in England. very honest about Brian, respectful of his (Brians's) role and his talent.

Yeah, the 71 interview is iconic, put Keith on the map in a way.

I really like the sit down video one he did at the New York public library right when His book Life came out, with Anthony DeCurtis. Very revealing, warm side of Keith Richards.

Fantastic interview. Like you say, very honest, informative about the 60'ies period. Thanks.

I used to get RS every fortnight 1970-75 after I tired of the UK music press.
It was a great read then, very good interviews, not like today's PR pieces.
Then, in my view RS lost its way, became less focussed on music, and moving into politics and any anything broadly' cultural' or trendy at the time.Very US emphadis of course.
I remember buying the Greenfield edition in 1971 (summer). I was working in London's Picadilly at the time, got it from a news stand at The Circus. The seller said in a jovial way that the thought Keith was quite bonkers! Of course Keith had stayed at The Ritz down the road,so probably had heard a bit about Keith and Anita's lifestyle at the time.

I like the one from July 8th. 1978 after the show at Soldier Field in Chicago when he interviews himself at the Whitehall Hotel for 13 hours. He asks himself the questions and then he answers back...The interview appears to be slightly rigged because he seems to be ready with quick witted answers every time the interviewer fires off a question. It is really kool...It gives you indepth perception and insight into all of the aspects of the complete, complex but yet simple man that is Keith Richards. For years there were bootlegs floating around and then for some reason around 84' they disappeared...

Thanks for the reminder.

"I want to try and make this thing grow up. Elvis couldn't do it.
A lot of them didn't do it. To me, it's important to prove that
this isn't just teenage kids' shit and you should feel embarrassed
when you're over forty and still doing it. That's not necessary.
This is a job. It's a man's job, and it's a lifelong job. And if
there's a sucker to ever prove it, I hope to be the sucker.

There is one from '74 on Old Grey Whistle where I just really like looking at him.

Another one from more recent years at ( I think) Electric Ladyland about guitars, where the guy interviewing Keith is literally bathed in sweat, and just a bundle of nerves.

And one more from '89 that takes place on some rooftop terrace.
