Don't waste your money on this one like I just found out I did. The sound is horrible. Simply stick with "Buried Alive Live in Maryland". It's way better...

I did a compare to the others, and although I agree this one doesn't sound great, I think its on par w/ Buried Alive In Maryland, also not great sound.

I don't have the cd yet, should have it by Tues or Wed, but at least w/ the vinyl it seems to be similar to the previous. It could be that the cd has a worse mix than the vinyl.

Yes, but music came out anyway! That's the joy of the New Barbarians. :E
I do agree that MSG wasn't their finest performance, though.

I really can't even believe they released this with Buried Alive being so much better and has all these songs and then some. For completists of the New Barbarians only...and this coming from a Stones completist! and no, it's not a better show even musically. I mean come on, these dudes were fried at the time.

+1 Though I'm sure the gig paid well, Stanley and Zigaboo must've wondered what the hell they got themselves into. Keef and Ronnie sound embarrassingly sloppy drunk.

What a lovely album! I'll have to listen a bit more before sharing my thoughts on the performance(s)/how it sounds etc. It is way better-sounding than Buried Alive, though.

Thanks to my friend who helped me out getting the "Arctic Swirl" thumbs up

Rob Fraboni managed to add bottom to this somewhat bootleg-ishly sounding collection of NB-performances.

It sounds like a dry live mono soundboard mix (for most of the songs). Some songs open up here and there, mainly because a few of these songs are spliced. Some songs lacked an intro or an ending, for instance, so obviously other performances are added and adjusted volume-wise to be mixed into this.

Apart from these editing jobs, the album sounds fine to my ears, and certainly not as ear-bleedingly treble-heavy as Buried Alive. There is a smoothness and warmth to this release that I haven't heard on other NB bootlegs.

The performance is classic NB. Some stuff sounds fantastic (Apartment #9, Mystifies Me, Let's Go Steady, Buried Alive, Rock Me Baby.

Others, like Breathe On Me and FUC Her are a lovely ramshackle.

There is an, um, interesting end to Ronnie's slide solo on Rock Me Baby...

And: We now have the proof – even Stanley Clarke can play bum notes grinning smiley

Worth buying, both for the performances and the overall mastering (certainly not the mix, because they didn't have the sources to do that).

Thanks for that, NeddieFlanders!
Is the splice in Rock Me Baby an addition from another show, or ... ?
And is Breathe On Me all Cincinnati or a combination of Cincinnati and NYC?

In any case it's really strange that they marketed it as MSG when what it is is a unique compilation.

I find it heart-warming that so many "pro" tapes are still in the vaults. If the sole tesimony of this great band and tour was to be the very plain Largo show I would find it shameful.

Q: has anyone compared the NYC "segment" to the Empress Valley boot "Barb Wired Tour"?

I'm not sure what you mean about "pro" tapes in the vaults - all the shows involved here are circulating bootlegs.
And apparently Dieter has compared the release with the bootlegs, which is how he identified the sources of the various tracks.
Hm, I have a funny feeling I'm not understanding your question.

I just compared the Dead Or Alive-version of Rock Me Baby with the audience tape of MSG. Can't make out any splice or difference in music.

To what splice are you refering, sssoul?

Now I found my copy of Barbed Wire Tour Vol.2 and compared to the already circulating soundboard version. No splice either (at least I didn't notice it). In my opinion Rock Me Baby on Wanted Dead Or Alive is 100% MSG.

They did play the ending of those 12 bars twice, and flawlessly?

EDIT: Will go back and double-check - that I didn't mix RMB up with one of the other blues numbers with a Ronnie slide solo..

Must say that I'm not impressed by this release. It sure looks nice, but when it comes to the actual music, it becomes evident that while the concept of The New Barbarians was great, it was never fulfilled by the music being played. A bit too ramshackle for my tastes, at least for listening in the safety of ones home! Live in concert it may have been a fun experience, but all existing recordings reveal that the playing (and singing, of course) was actually bad to the bone. The band simply had no good sound - the thin and trebly guitar sounds really go on my nerves.

I have double-checked Rock Me Baby. There is no splice, but a rather weird mistake from Keith.

During Ronnie's solo (the second solo). At first, I thought the whole band did that mistake (going back to what's supposed to be the chord ending the 12 bars way to early), but as it turned out, it was only Keith.

The show i saw from front row i noticed Keith had a full bottle of Jack, before the end of the show he had drained it.[and that was real 90 proof Jack not the watered down green bottle stuff they put in the black bottles nowadays for the weekend warriors.]

That may have caused a glitch or two, that tour was a nonstop party....it's not the london philharmonic, just great rock and roll.

This was on pre-order earlier on bol.com in The Netherlands, incl. vinyl version, but withdrawn.
Now it's back again. Only the 1 CD version.

Are the rehearsals on it? Bol.com does not give a tracklist.
