When I came up with this idea, it was more of a what 20 songs would you select as the Stones' greatest recorded moments? That, and a vague idea that you would thus use this 2LP set or CD to introduce those who might not know the band as well to what you believe are the best 20 trax they ever did. It does not matter if the song was a hit ...

Of course, it was obvious from your inclusion of such tracks as Just Wanna See His Face & Back Of My Hand

Now to critique your list!

1. Route 66 (Live) (from Got Live EP)
2. Satisfaction
3. 19th Nervous Breakdown
4. 2000 Light Years From Home
5. Jumping Jack Flash
6. Sympathy for the Devil
7. Street Fighting Man
8. Live With Me (Live from Ya Yas)
9. Gimme Shelter
10. Honky Tonk Women
11. Brown Sugar (w/ Eric Clapton)
12. Let It Rock (Live at Leeds)
13. Rocks Off
14. I Just Wanna See His Face
15. Sweet Virginia
16. Midnight Rambler (Live at Brussels)
17. Starf--cker
18. Respectable
19. Back of My Hand
20. Rough Justice

First, love the inclusion of Rough Justice. I think it's a great number, but don't think I would have it in my top 20 myself.

I love Respectable as well - that would be close for me, but the Some Girls song would be on the chart, don't 'think' Respectable would make mine either, but it might. Too close to call it.

Midnight Rambler, Brussels -- can't get much better than that!

Brown Sugar - Clapton version is cool, but quality not perfect, original wins!

Are they in order? Gimme Shelter has to be #1! For me I would probably go w/ Sympathy as #2, followed by Honky Tonk Women #3.

Back of My Hand? A nice number for sure but don't even think that one cracks my top 100. For a classic bluesy number, I would throw in a cover, Little Red Rooster.

Maybe it would be nice to create a no-hits but "deep-cuts-collection", albums-songs and B-sides that were rarely or never done live, songs of very good/great quality that usually dont get the appreciation they deserve?

It's the 20 tracks that best represent the Stones, to me.

It's interesting to read other lists, although one thing that strikes me is the lack of live tracks in some selections.

It would have been impossible for me to have drawn up a top twenty and not include some of the Stones' finest live recordings, which ended up accounting for a quarter of my list.

I don't see that many Rolling Stones Greatest Hits compilations with live versions of the songs; I guess the same criticism is for those albums.

All the more reason to address the imbalance; those live recordings, particularly during the band's best live phase, are amongst their greatest recordings.

There are some. Check out the Selected Compilation Talks for some of them.

Why not put them as bonus traxx on the first single from the LP?
