Euro in Italy 1980 had less than 2 per match - 1.93.

I remember it being a very boring tournament. Defensive style of playing.

few goals and excitement.

but 1980 euros were only 8 teams, compared to 24 for this year.

so we should be getting more goals as these is less quality in the group stages.

so far we had 69 goals in 36 group games, and 4 goals in 3 knockout games yesterday, although it has picked up a bit today.

Strong show from Germany but they will face what could have been the final in the next game. I would prefer Spain but we have a score to settle with Italy.

Slovakia and Ireland still should be commended in their play against these international teams.

Belgium will be another part in the quarter finals - 4-0 against Hungary. Will be a difficult match for Wales and Bale.

France / (England / Iceland)

Massive game this afternoon between Spain and Italy. Really hard to call this one but I think it will go to penalties with Spain winning.

Nope, a 1-0 english win is what I predicted. However, I won't be surprised to see a slow english team gently keep knocking on a mercilessly shut icelandic door time and time again tonight

Well, the vikings founded England (and Russia). England should win by a margin but they probably won't. 1-0 to England is a reasonable guess.
But I wouldn't be surprized if it ended 0-0 after regular time. The vikings has Lars Lagerbäck as head coach. He is a defensive specialist...

I predict draws in both games tonight.
1-1 England - Iceland
0-0 Italy - Spain.

But I hope I'm wrong.
Yesterday was a great day with teams that were not as much afraid to lose, but eager
to win.
But, even though Belgium won with the most goals scored so far, I am flabbergasted about
the many fails of the forward players. I think Belgium could have scored seven or eight
times. I've seen it before with Germany, England, Spain. A lot of chances were killed
because the front players were making mistakes/ failures.

And Portugal.... man! Please send them home! They absolutely killed the game against
Croatia. It could have been a great game with gifted players on both sides. But it
took us 115 minutes to see a ball heading towards the goal!

he lost 4 finals (3 in a row), that was too much !

As Marx said self-interest never dies. Stars like Messi and Zlatan are first and foremost loyal to the money. They play in clubs where everything is focused around them and they aren't used to losing games (big clubs seldom do). It's not always easy like that in their national teams and they are paid less. Add on top of that the risk of injuries.

Just heard Messi has retired from playing international football for Argentina. I'll have to read more about this. He can definitely play longer, maybe he is frustrated.

Everyone, including the big name players have missed penalties, crummy way to decide a game. I'm just hearing he got a yellow card for diving as well, I did not see the game.

Well, folks should try to make their picks in the online tournament.

One of my best friends was Hungarian, I had to cheer for them, they really made a good effort and 3 of those goals the Belgians scored was in the last 12 minutes so it was a good match until they largely gave up,

So, even though Hungary was David vs. Belgium who were Goliath in that match at least, there was no parking the bus by Hungary, they made an all and out effort. The Belgian goalkeeper, Courtois, even said this.

I've thought early on that this Welsh team, since they have one of the best players in the world, could make some noise in these playoff rounds.

So Portugal is the only team standing that ended third in the first round.

And per Ireland's coach, 3 less days of rest at least for Ireland vs. France who had 6 days.

So, that shows the cost of finishing 3rd vs. 1st. I don't know if it is that way though in all of those matches.

well, for the moment, I would say that Italy deserves to lead
no surprise if they finally win that game
Spain's gonna have to wake up seriously.
