Died today. Great actor. Cool Hand Luke is his best known role. He was also great in an underrated Clint Eastwood flick, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.

Worked with him on a crappy independent film in the mid-80s. Nice guy.

Showed his diversity with his comedic role in the Naked Gun series. Wonderful actor.

God bless.

Mr Kennedy was so good in so many classic movies like in the original Airport as the runway clearer hero, as Clint's supposed buddy in the Eiger Sanction, hilarious in the Naked Guns, great the army officer in The Dirty Dozen, cool as Paul's buddy in Cool Hand Luke (shakin it boss, shakin it!) be grumpy as the grumpy old guy in Thunderbolt and lightfoot, Playin the bad guy in those John Wayne movies, and if you watch much Gunsmoke he showed up all the time as all sorts of characters... heck he shows up all the time in all sorts of movies and TV shows all the time... I have said for years and years... HEY LOOK ITS GEORGE KENNEDY AGAIN!!!

He is awesome and he will live forever, because celluloid heroes never really die.

1967 Earned Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in "Cool Hand Luke"

Aww shucks, I grew up with him in a way. You just couldn't miss him in the 60s and somewhat less in the 70s. He was a great "tough guy" and had a very distinctive voice. He was just the type of man where you almost felt that you knew him. You couldn't forget him once you saw him.

RIP

As mentioned previously, loved the change of roles with his appearances in the Naked Gun films.

The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear quotes

Frank: That's the red-light district. I wonder why Savage is hanging around down there.
Ed: Sex, Frank?
Frank: Uh, no, not right now, Ed. We've got work to do.

Rest in peace, George Kennedy.

I only know him from the marvellous Naked Gun movies, but he evidently covered a far broader range as a popular and acclaimed actor of U.S. film and television.

My best friends from high school, we still quote this movie on a daily basis. When I met Kennedy, I told him this, and he almost started crying, thought it was the best thing an actor could hear.

That's great! One of my favorite movie memories was seeing The Eiger Sanction with some high school buddies. The scene where George, watching Eastwood climb the mountain is bothered by a snarky woman who wants a look through his telescope, and he stares at her and replies with a line that was something about shoving it up her.... Well, we just laughed and LAUGHED and couldn't stop. And then when we finaly did, it would start up again! People around us were getting pissed off. I think it went on for about ten minutes, and when it eventually stopped our sides were aching.

Nobody could deliver a line with a straight face like George Kennedy.

He was a good actor. I remember him also as the character Carter McKay in "Dallas".

RIP George Kennedy
