I'd like to hear Rough Justice as opener too... to me it's their strongest rocker in years and very passable as a "stones opening song"...
A bit surprised you would like SFTD out of the setlist completely... it's an amazing tune for an Arena... During 40 Licks the Stones played Comiskey Park in Chicago, prolly 50-60,000 in attendance... I just remember the subways full of people chanting the SFTD "whooo whooo" after the concert...
And in the auditorium show, the 2-punch of SFTD and Gimme Shelter back to back was one of the very highlights of the tour.

I don't recall Dead Flowers being the opener for the 71-72 Sticky Fingers tour...
I saw them twice on that tour (KC and St. Louis)... the opener for both was "Brown Sugar"...
What about the Tattoo You tour timeframe... did they open w/ Start Me Up ?
DP - you may be thinking they opened with Dead Flowers because it's the lead track on the Leeds boot - they didn't open with it - that's an incomplete disc.
based on tonight's dress rehearsal at Fenway, you can pretty much rule out SFTD - it closed the set. HTW still seems to be in the running - it was rehearsed early and late in the set. My hunch is the Stones are intentionally trying to keep folks guessing during the rehearsals - as it should be.
we'll see - i'm not convinced "that" will be the opener - I think the boys are trying to keep the public guessing. Also, it appears that no b-stage set was rehearsed...so those tunes promise to be a surprise, still...

I think it maybe JJ. It was not rehearsed. It would be great to have a live version which starts like the studio version. I have only ever heard this live with keith starting off with the main riff. Also maybe slow it down a tad. They play it too fast and it ruins the the power of the riff.
Personally I'd like too see GS open. A faster more rockin version than the blues variant we have had lately.
