"Dig It" Vocals: A Mick Parody?

Yesterday, my son played to me the 51 sec version of "Dig It" from The Beatles' "Let It Be" album, telling me that it was Mick singing there while, however, there were no credits given to him for the vocals. Right, I replied him, that it was him and that I hadn't known that number so far, and that Mick's voice was such an unmistakeable one that I would always recognize him promptly after hearing only a single word sung.

Now, after having googled the subject matter a bit, I guess I have to revise my opinion. It looks to me that the vocals are actually by John Lennon, and that it might be a parody of Mick's singing.

What do you think? And is there a story behind it?

Cheers and Happy New Year

Excellent parody by Lennon. At least that's what I thought the first time I heard it (and still do). Especially the «I'm a roooolling stone»-part is spot on!

The snippet on Let It Be is edited from a much longer recording.
It sounds exactly like John Lennon.

Dig It a 'Jagger-parody' ??? Why...This is simply an inspired studio improvisation over a rock n roll theme by good 'ol John...

I've always thought it as Lennon's parody of Dylan's 'Like a Rolling Stone.' Also, as pointed out, the longer version from the 'Get Back' sessions make this clear...including the improvisational nature of the lyrics they were doing with other songs (including the comical 'Get Off!' and even the early versions of the song "Get Back!").

Anyway, the Get Back sessions and bootlegs shows the Beatles getting back to their early r&b/rocknroll roots...before the Stones formed.

Lol the only person he is impersonating is the greatest rock n roll vocalist ever - himself, John Lennon

Listen to him on Dizzy Miss Lizzie for example - the voice is the same.

It never sounded like anyone but John to me, and it still doesn't.

No I don't hear this as a Mick parody. If it was John would have probably used some Jagger lyrics to drive the point home. He doesn't strike me as as the kind of guy who would be so subtle if parody was his intention, which is kind of evidenced by that great "That was 'Can You Dig It?' by Georgie Wood, and now we'd like to do 'Hark, the Angels Come".

Never made the connection that it was a parody of anyone - sounds purely like John Lennon to me.

After seeing this thread, I went back and listened to "Dig It," and I really don't see the Mick parody in there. But I know that Lennon was a big Stones fan, so I wouldn't be surprised if at some point in The Beatles' career John echoed some of what Mick was doing. I've always felt like there was some semblance of similarity between the vocals/guitar in "Happiness is a Warm Gun," and "Sister Morphine." (Although The White Album came before Sticky Fingers).

"Dig It" a dig at Mick from from Lennon? I don't think so.
